DGE TODD Although many may not know this, Mr. Todd was the warden of the TTC hostel while I was there-1984, which he ruled with an iron hand and a soft touch. He instilled in many, the discipline over our loose tongues ( a fine for using words unbecoming of a teacher!)As a teacher in the TTC, he gave us strings of sums and number base conversions which had some ripping out their hair and the fortunte ones like yours truly, a bit of a laugh. whatever his means, the end truly justified them. My son is in a boarding school, and we laugh as he imitates his various teachers and their eccentricities. Mount Hermon had its fair share of the same. Mr Todd was a character who is irreplacable. Who can forget Shintu 'Todd' running around madly with Charmaine ( wonder where she is) chasing him with a little stick and threatening to tell 'his father' about him! One of a kind. Someone who helped make MH a place that will stay in our memories to share with children and grandchildren. Many TTCs felt that the MH fraternity 'looked down' on them, to those I always say 'as you sow, so shall you reap'. My memories are filled with pleasant and loving memories of friends and children who left an indelible 'chaap' on ones persona and character. Thank you MH. Staff and children, on behalf of the many TTCs who went on to do great things..like teach. I am today what I am, thanks to all of you. "Youall" (as we were never allowed to say by Ms. Johnston). I have taught in many schools over the years, both in India and Dubai, but have never been able to find one that can match the calibre. Mr Todd made us understand the simplicity of Maths, which we as teachers were able to pass on to thousands of children.....we hope! By : Andrew Hoffland Graduated : Date : 26/4/2005 2:57 |
