Topic : Spilling the beans on Secret school Crushes

Description : Let's talk about secret crushes at MH........ I'll kick-start.

Stepping into senior school in '75, I remember me and a couple of good pals had a major crush on one of the prefects, Som Singh Lama. We'd deliberately stand first in line in the quadrangle so he'd beckon US to walk in to the dining hall. LOL. When we later heard that he'd paired up with Bronwyn we were utterly heartbroken and only somewhat mollified by the fact that we thought she was equally adorable too!

This thread is going to have a lot of examples of what we used to call 'seconded' - back in the day . . . that feeling of having had your high hopes crushed when the object of your adoration suddenly showed up after dinner walking coyly around with someone else . . .
Dubs reminded us of that fine word in the MH slang thread . . .
Ann - you might get more than you asked for if 'true confessions' are forthcoming - :)

Robin, I don't see any true confessions in here. Do people have very short memories or are they all chicken, do you think? :( 23/7/2003 0:55
3 Seniors to start with Tashi ( ktashi@hotmail.com )
Hey Robin,

I think we should have the seniors to start with their "true confessions" . That includes the other Pillars of the site Joy, Lochan et al, ha ha.

I can't believe how chicken everyone is!! C'mon you guys, this is all just for fun. If you can't get yourselves to actually broadcast the names, then fake them but puleeze, don't act like a bunch of wimps who never had crushes or got 'crushed' .
This goes for you too, Robin

7 Ahhh..the joys of a coed school..!! Bachan ( bachan@4st.wlink.com.np )
Back in 1969 in class 1, I thought Miss. Johnson was the best teacher anyone could have. She was very pretty, absolutely adorable, played the guitar and sang 'Under my Lollipop Tree'. You just could not stop liking her. She was from New Zealand and returned back home in 1971.
In class 6 as a Junior School Monitor, I remember the evening studies where we presided over the lower classes. There in class 5 was a girl named Vicky (don't remember her family name) who I thought was very pretty, very cute. She used to sit on the front desk to the right of the teacher's table (where the monitor sat) so one could hardly avoid not looking at her! Perhaps Ann, you remember her. She didn't return to school the following year, so that opportunity was lost forever!!!

8 Seconded! Robin ( sengupt_ark@yahoo.com )
In Class IX I had a crush on a girl named Linda Pratt.
It lasted all of 7 minutes because even while the crush was developing she let it out that she liked a classX boy named . . .
Varanond Lulitanond . . .
Well . . . talk about seconded!!!
Fortunately for me - no one knew of my crush - in fact - this is the first time I have ever mentioned it!!
Now . . . I strongly recommend that if others aren't forthcoming . . . we each spill the beans on their behalf . . . and . . . DO . . . I . . . KNOW . . . SOME . . . STORIES - :)
So own up people!!!
Robin

LOL Bachan, love that part about "Under the lollipop tree". And now that you mention her I seem to vaguely remember Vicky. Yeah she was a pretty little thing. Must be breaking hearts all around now.

Robin, you've got me all agog ! Yeah, spill all the beans...go go go!

10 chicken lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
I have to admit I am a chicken in this matter. Sorry Ann, "you can feather and tar me and call up the army" but you are not going to get my true confessions here. Hey I do not want my teeth hammered to the back of my skull by the husbands of my secret crushes!

However I can talk about crushes that we boys in general had and not me in particular. We boys in class 4 and 5 in 1969 and 1970 had a big crush on Miss Mitchell, our arts teacher. She was probably the best looking female teacher in all my years in MH. Then there was Miss Mascharenas who was the most freaky teacher in MH. I think she lasted not more than 2 months at MH but we boys all had crush on her. In her case I think it was more than a crush! We were already in senior school then and our hormones were popping more rapidly than the bubbles in a bottle of coke. She was probably there in 75 or 76.
From our seniors there was this girl from either class of 71 or 72...I forgot her first name but I think her second name was Lama. She used to play netball too and we boys in class 6 / 7 used to love watching her. I guess she was in Fischer house........Robin / Ved / Dubs any idea who I am talking about? She had a pretty face and a long slender body. We kids really fancied her.

11 Let Your Bubbles Burst Dubs ( raikonam@ihug.co.nz )
The name of the Knowles House queen was Gayzen Lama.
Note Lochan and Robin - KNOWLES House. Fisher House, eat your hearts out. Gayzen was a very special person - talented, very friendly and of course bestowed with beauty.
Time for a cold shower Lochan !

12 Gayzen it is! lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
Dubs, I did have a cold shower just now as per your advice! A fat lot of good that was.........it did not help at all.

Gayzen was cool, a real cool girl and a great looker even for us kids. We just used to gaze at her at every given opportunity. No wonder her name was "Gaze in" Lama!! Was she in your class? What is she doing and where is she? Where was she from? Sikkim? Do fill us in with details of the best crush that class of 76 ever had!

By the way, I was in Stahl and not Fischer or Knowles. In the junior school it was Dewey. So I am not too fond of either Fischer or Knowles except for Gayzen Lama! Now put that in your pipe and smoke it!!

13 Gayzen II lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
Hey Dubs do you remember a minor production (play) that your class put up? It featured you as the umpire in a village cricket team versus MCC. You were famous for giving not outs even when the villagers were clearly out? Who played the part of captain Straightbat of MCC?

This play had a very famous song that went,
"...... Don't let the bowlers catch you,
Booty, booty, booty, booty....."

When it came to singing that part, the chorus had to shake their bodies and gyrate their hips.....do you remember it? Well when it came to that part, the only person we used to look at is Gayzen Lama. She made the gyrations look real cool. It is mostly because of her I remember this song and that play, apart from the antics of the umpire not giving the villagers out! So you can see how fond we were of Gayzen.

Hey Ann, are you satisfied now with all these entries? You have opened a can of worms.........all in good humour of course! I hope I will still have my teeth intact in the coming days otherwise you will have to do the last rites for me in Mizoram.

14 Knowles House Queen Dubs ( raikoanm@ihug.co.nz )
Sorry Lochan, I have smoked the pipe. I was just trying to give Robin the idea that Knowles had the beauty and the brain.
Yep Gayzen was in my main class as well as the Nepali class.
She was from Hong Kong/Malaya and her dad was a high ranking Gurkha Army officer.

15 The Batsman's Bride Dubs ( raikonam@ihug.co.nz )
Mrs Murray - take another bow ! From our perspective, 'The Batsman's Bride' was right up there with other produtions I was involved in e.g. 'The Mikado', 'The Gondoliers', ' Salad Days'.
A special 'runway' was built as an extension from the stage to the auditorium for the cricket pitch.
There was Captain Straightbat from the MCC and Captain Cowshot from the village XI. Not quite sure who played Straightbat. I know Shearb was one of the bowlers.
"Don't let the bowler catch you in his arms. Boo-di boo, boodi boo."
Some of my lines as umpire, " I am the game's dictator and I have absolute authority."
"Life is like cricket. One never knows what will happen until the last over has been bowled." (except when Australia plays Bangladesh........ not part of the script).
One could say that "Lagaan" is the movie version of The Batsman's Bride.
Hi Gayzen ! See what impact you had on younger Hermonites
in 1972.
Try a couple of hours in the freezer Lochan.

16 Be still my beating heart! Ayinla ( ayinsao@yahoo.com )
Ann, Ann, Ann (and now for all the Hermonite world to see) you got it all wrong!
Confession #1: It was my house (Dewey) captain that I had the biggest crush ever on - Robin Banerjee. Gorgeousness on pristine white cricket flannels-clad legs, Prefect perfectness and altogether You-can -be- captain- of- my- heart- any- time kind of guy!!! I can't tell you how many times I almost passed out in the quad waiting to go into the dining room/Chapel when my girlfriends would all but wave red flags in the air 'whispering', "He's looking at you! He's looking at you!" (Robin, if you are reading this, now's the time to let me know if you ever were and make my heart beat a little faster for old times sake!)
Confession #2: I pretended to have a crush on Mr. Glasby for about a year. Hey! All the girls of none but the coolest gang in MH were swooning over him so peer pressure did me in! He was cool, played the guitar and sang but somehow he didn't make my heart race like 'you now know who'! But Mr. Glasby, I'll never forget you as long as Many Vain Earthlings May Just Sprout Unnecessary Nuclear Pimples.
Confession #3: Barbara Nichols-Roy. Didn't every girl who was in school with her want to be just like her? I slobbered all over her autograph book - IN WRITING for heaven's sake! An all-time great cringe-making memory of dear old M.H.
So given half the chance would I do it all over again? In a heartbeat!

17 gayzen hong kong lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
Gayzen was from Hong Kong? Well that is lucky for me as I do go there once or twice a year. Perhaps if fortune favours me, I may bump into beauty with brains, Gayzen Lama, the apple of the eyes of class of 76!! However I think I may not be so lucky as a lot of Nepalis and ex British Gurkhas have moved away from there to UK. So in all probability she is in UK. Hey Dubs do you think you can post a picture of her from school days in the pictures section of this site? That would be great and would bring back a lot more memories of MH flooding back through the mists of time.

Dubs, you are absolutely right.....the first thing that came to my mind when I heard of Laagan was that it was a "copy" of "The Batsman's Bride"! I told that to quite a number of people....that we at MH were ahead of Amir Khan by 30 years almost!

Hey Ayinla, if you want to see Robin, you may have to go to Darj again. He is Planter in one of the tea gardens. I am sure he would be more than happy to meet you!! If you are really there in Darj sometime, you can go to the Planters club and find out which tea garden he is attached to. I am under the impression that he is in one of the gardens near the Nepal border near Mirik.

Dubs, I am headed for the deep freezer set a couple of degrees above absolute zero!

Cheers to all who have come clean with their confessions! The ball is in your court now Dubs as I do not see your confession!

18 Wow Ann ( zpoonte@hotmail.com )
Kudos to all of you who've come forward with these cute tales of puppy love. Hey everyone goes through these stages so don't you worry about jealous husbands/wives beating you up and other archaic ideas (well, hopefully anyway :P)

Lochan and Dubs, I don't remember your paragon of beauty and brains. Was she around in 74/75? And was Miss Mascarenas the Art teacher with frizzy hair and loads of attitude?

Ayin, I remember Robin vaguely.....was he the fair, Romeo-look-alike type? Barbara was ok but the girl me and my friends would've died to look like was Jutatip. We thought she was just soooo cool and she was in Dewey House too. I remember once at an inter-house netball game Barbara and the other girls were yelling "Jump, Tip, jump" and she yelled back, "But my shoes (or was it socks) will get dirty"! He he.... we adored her all the same!

19 Attila with an attitude lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
Ann, you are the one who started this thread so if anyone of us are injured or beaten up or worse it will be your responsibility to do the needful........including the last rites and so on!! Just joking ok?

Gayzen Lama the paragon of beauty and brain was from the class of 72 so I do not think you would have seen her. You hit the nail on the head with your description of Miss Mascarenas. She was the art teacher with frizzy hair and with an attitude of Attila the Hun. Two things that I remember her for and neither of them has anything to do with arts. One was that she took it upon herself to teach us senior boys how to dance....closely, very closely that is. There was a long queue for that lesson! The other incident was when one afternoon she lay flat on the cement bench opposite the Stewart Building. From our class room we could all see her sunbathing there and as you can imagine most of us stopped paying attention to what was being taught in class! The focus of our attention was squarely on the exhibit suntanning herself on the bench.

Hey Tip was and is a good friend of mine. She was pretty wasn't she? I met her about a year ago in Bangkok. In school she was very lively and bubbly and easy to get along.

20 gazing at gayzen ved ( vedamarchand@hotmail.com )
Greying hair, libido on the wane,a failing memory, coupled with the fact that my wife loves to browse through this site prohibits me from really getting a lot of things off my chest. Had it not been for the inherent cowardice and double standards that we all males share, I am sure that this topic would have had the maximum number of hits - second only to the world cup cricket page. Anyway I'll play safe. I have a wonderful photograph of Gayzen Lama with Palden Sherpa (Lucky *******). One of these days I am going to put it up on our site. 5/8/2003 5:9
21 what are you waiting for? lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
Ved, What are you waiting for? Diwali or Christmas? Come on hurry up and post it double quick. You will make a lot of people happy when you do so.

By the way if you experience some trouble posting photos like I am having, just send it to me via email. I will ask my brother, Bachan, to do the needful as he is able to post photos without any trouble. I wonder why.

22 Good topic, Ann Joy ( joy@success.net.th )
This is getting more and more interesting. Dubs, you haven't come out with anything yet...we're waiting. Ravi, you can be more specific with all your unsuccessful crushes.
I have been thinking and thinking but don't seem to recollect any hidden heart throbs.
Sonam, you probably have some...

23 Guaranteed to make you feel younger Ayinla ( ayinsao@yahoo.com )
Hey! Ved, there's nothing better than reliving old crushes to make you feel younger. Go on! Try it! And sounds like your wife is already an honorary Hermonite so I'm sure she'll just come up with a couple of her own confessions! And, by the way, I think I have a crush on you already - finally a man who admits to the inherent cowardice and double standards of the species is a man after not just after mine but every woman's heart. Right, girls?! 5/8/2003 14:8
24 Wishful Thinking Dubs ( raikonam@ihug.co.nz )
The first lines to the song went:
'Wishful thinking day dreams fly
Happy visions fill the night.........'
Forgot who the singer was but there were many occasions when we identified closely with that sentiment.
One young teacher who had us completely mesmerised was the younger sister of Mrs Kalyani Pradhan. The younger sister came as a relieving teacher for a short while.
I could not wait for the Nepali classes. There was a lot of observation done with very little learning. Day dreams flew and happy visions filled the night.
Oh well....... sigh ....... back to work tomorrow.

Dubs, I remember Miss Pradhan, the younger sister of Mrs. K Pradhan. She was there just for a short while. As you rightly pointed out, Nepali classes were suddenly something one look forward to. I wonder what happened to her. 5/8/2003 20:50

27 Well, well, well...... Bachan ( bachan@4st.wlink.com.np )
Ann, in case you want to remind yourself on how Som Sing Lama used to look like, I suggest you go to 'Old Walls' section of Salad Days and check out the photos in the 1973 category. There stands Som, true to the 70s fashion of fringed hair and bellbottom pants! For real Som sighting, make a pilgrimage to Bombay and nip into 'Kalimpong House', down by Warden Road!
Ayinla my friend....that confession on Robin was truly staggering! Here we were thinking the long mane damsel from Nagaland always fancied our classmate, Bull! How the mighty have fallen...but alas, neither have the meek inherited the earth, as Robin was probably a fancied catch of many a-girl at school!

Well, I am certainly looking forward to many more entries on this topic!

28 Pairing up Tash ( ktashi@hotmail.com )
Who did Robin piar up with in school? Was it the Thai girl - sorry cannot recall her name. Perhaps Ayinla might know of this. Things now seem to be zeroing on Ayinla and Robin. 6/8/2003 4:41
29 robin banerjee lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
In 1976, the senior year for me and to the best of my knowledge Robin Banerjee was paired with Ann......no not our own Ann Poonte here in this site but Ann Gardner, the sister of my two class mates, Roxanna and Charlotte. Robin Banerjee too was the brother of my class mate Betty Banerjee.

Roxanna was paired up with Mervyn Nathan of Malaysia (Biscuit la) in 1976 and Betty with Brij Wason (Falcon). I do not think Charlotte was with anyone in our senior in 1976.

1976 was a vintage year for getting paired up, all in the spirit of '76.
6/8/2003 5:11
30 Gardner's Tashi ( ktashi@hotmail.com )
I think one of the Gardner sisters, if I am not mistaken paired up with Naza or Nazari. Maybe I am wrong 6/8/2003 6:36
31 quite correct lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
Tashi, that was Roxanna. She was paired up with Pradip Nazari till 1975. He graduated from school that year. I hear that Pradip Nazari is one of the prominent underground leaders of the Bodo movement in Assam. Nazari used to be in my class till he got double promoted and hop skipped and jumped from class 4 in 1969 right to class 6 in 1970 along with Pornipa from Thailand. Nazari was a very popular figure in our time and I am sure he would have been in the cross hairs of many girls.

Nazari is not contactable possibly for reasons given above. I think Nazari's elder brother was our senior, perhaps in Ved's class. Dubs, Ved or Robin can confirm that.

In 1976 Roxanna paired up with Mervyn Nathan aka Biscuit La. Roxanna is presently well settled in Vancouver BC Canada. She is not contactable either. Like Nazari, Roxanna was an extremely popular girl and I am sure she broke many hearts of XY Chromosomes when she paired with Mervyn in 1976.

32 Lessons in the art of crushes Ayinla ( ayinsao@yahoo.com )
OK, you Gyawali brothers, a couple of pointers:
Lochan, thank you for all your kind tips on how to track Robin down but the secret to eternal crushes is to let the object of your affections remain forever young. (Just as well for you that the long-awaited picture of the lovely Gayzen dates from the salad days ...).
Bachan, a crush is only ever a bona fide crush if only you and your best friend/s know about it - no, not even the boy you walked around the school with should have an inkling! (That's another story altogether- to be probed, analysed and confeesed to another time!)
And here's one for Kunjo Tashi:
OK, rub it in! Yes! indeed Robin WAS paired up with Ann Gardner but not any longer when he was house captain. However, let it be now revealed that the third great secret to crushes is that a crush should be reserved for only the truly unattainable. Dhak dhak dhaks guaranteed.
And all of you who confessed on crushes of teachers: PUHLEEZ! What a cop out!
Ann: Dear girl, this is the best antidote to writer's block ever. A million thanks and when I've finished wiping the blood off my keyboard I promise I'll get back to you personally. BTW, if by fair Romeo look-alike you mean could also pass for a decent Donny Osmond type, then yes! You are right! (I refuse to cringe!! - I even loved Andy Gibb after all. Oh, and what about The Bay City Rollers?!, Leif Garrett, et al!!!!!

33 Art of Crushes - Part II Bachan ( bachan@4st.wlink.com.np )
Plonk! You got it right between the eyes, Ayinla! The secret of course is...to keep it secret! No lessons needed on that, as it seems most contributors to this topic have been very evasive on their 'real' crush at school...never mind it was 20 to 30 years ago!
To add a bit of clarity on the relationship between the two, let me copy and paste my latest text from the 'Hermonite Lingo' thread:

The term 'Dhuk-dhuk' was commonly used in our senior years to refer to one's crush. Derived from the Nepali term for the sound of heart-beat, Dhuk-dhuk aptly described the pounding state of one's real heart when confronted by the object of one's desire, asking perhaps to borrow your Chemistry notes! Girls probably had flutters, but boys definitely had dhuk-dhuks!!

Another great MH Crush tradition was the borrowing of ‘Umbi’ after the evening studies for the walk back to Fernhill during the monsoons. Unlike the simplistic notes approach, this required great planning and flawless strategy. From getting the timing right (girls trooped out 5 minutes before the boys were let off…I wonder why!) to evading other girls willing to hand out the ‘colourful foldables’. I, like so many other boys, have on a number of occasions grudgingly accepted with gritted teeth, the wrong article, only never to use it. Yes, faithfulness was an ingrained quality back then!

34 How Do You Mend A Broken Heart" - Bee Gees ved ( vedamarchand@hotmail.com )

To be young at heart is a privilege that belongs to every Hermonite. I must thank Ayinla for making me feel young again. Just goes to show that the Hermonite spirit that lives within us is timeless, ageless, vigorous and energetic. The best dates in a palm trees are produced when the tree is more than 50 years old, so let me shake my memory a bit. How many of us can forget the absolutely exotic, captivating, attractive and charismatic Niloufer Haque? She was with us for only a year and as far as I was concerned it was Dhuk-Dhuk- Dhuk a million times over. I wonder where she is now?

Ved good on you to confess. Now who is this Melody Fair (with apologies to the Bee Gees) who captivated your heart? Can someone describe her more. Where was she from? Which year was she in? Any chance of posting her picture (or her class photo) in the Old Wall section of Salad Days? Robin, Dub or anyone reading this do us this favour?

Thanks for showing concern mate. Since you are so fond of quotations I’ll share one more with you. “If a man should challenge me, I would take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet place and kill him.” MARK TWAIN

I remember reading somewhere that if wrinkles must be written upon our brows, let them not be written upon the heart. The spirit should never grow old. We may not have the enterprise to commit the vices that we long for, but that does not mean that we cannot even think about them - you as a musician should know better than anyone else that old fiddles are more durable than new ones and produce better tunes.

Robin and Ved, I am curious about Ved's Niloufer Haque. I do not remember her at all. Was she in the class of 71? I need someone to shake my dates and memory a bit. Hey Ved you have yet to upload Gayzen's picture here. While you do that let us have pictures of all those mentioned in this thread. Som Singh Lama is already there. Niloufer, joined MH in 1970. She was a classmate of Dubs and Sherab. She joined in the month of April. The first day she walked into the dining hall, she was wearing a red dress and all eyes turned... the way heads turn in a tennis match. She was with us for only two years. She had come from Arah, a small town in Bihar. She left MH under extremely mystifying, strange and inexplicable cirucmstances that even necessitated a trip to the Police Station by Mr.Murray. She left along with her father, at 2 in the morning... I know because I saw her off. She wrote to me from Arah, then from Aligarh and the last time I heard from her was from Hyderabad. She was getting married to a cricketer who played for the Hyderabad Blues. If my curses worked the ******* has never scored a run since, nor taken a catch, nor a wicket. As for the photographs of Gayzen and Niloufer, just give me some time Lochan, my friend.

40 I wish more would join in ved ( vedamarchand@hotmail.com )
Only six topics have so far managed to get 25 or more hits. Robins world-cup is the undisputed numero-uno but Ann’s secret crushes have the potential to displace it from its pedestal, if only we could become a little more forthright, a little more candid and a little more unafraid. Lets have a look at those that meet the 25 benchmark.

India’s world Cup – Robin Sengupta 104 hits
Spilling the beans on secret crushes by Ann still batting on 39.
Bunking and exeats favourites by Bachan 29 hits
World cup 2002 by Socci 25 hits
Hermonite Lingo by Dubs 25 hits
Kolkata Hermonites where are you by Bada 25 hits

The above statistics more than evidence the fact that if the chaps had to chose between taking their girls for a movie or play a cricket match; they’d opt for the latter. Love may be the most important thing in the world, but cricket, well, that’s another matter. That first loves or school crushes are eternal and not merely puppy-love. That deep down there lingers a hope and desire that we will meet again

41 Look who is talking lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
Ved it took Ayinla to goad you into revealing your crushes! Come on Ayinla, we need you to insult and shame the rest of the Hermonite gang into revealing their secrets. But for Ved we would not have known about Niloufer Haque and her story; we would never have heard of Linda Pratt and Gayzen would not have figured in this site. Come on guys and girls, we need more inputs here. Ashish, Arnob and Sonam (from SC'76)........you all need to come out of the closet so to speak and reveal it all. Let us hit a century in this topic as well. It is all in good humour and let us not be chicken. Joy we have yet to have an input about your dream guy. Ashish, like many in our class, I think you did have some sort of major crush on Zarina Khan didn't you? LOL.......well that may kickstart you into writing something on someone. You Mars, who was your Venus??!!

Ayinla ... what a pleasant surprise finding you here...one of my crushes was you actually.... and to find you here in this section..HA HA! 19/8/2003 7:24
43 Ouch! What a miss. lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
Ayinla, well now you know that while you were watching Robin Banerjee, someone else was watching you. What a miss! Ergo, it pays to look around and not only focus your attention on one guy only!! As the famous song from one of the major production went, "There are lots of fish, good fish in the sea".

I would suspect that June had lots of crushes in school........ha ha...just joking June. See you in Hong Kong soon.
19/8/2003 7:43
44 Hi Robin June ( june@novastel.com.hk )
When I used to have my violin practise in one of the cells, if I remember correctly, I always saw Robin with Neena Watson as they were always under the corner tree above the tennis court, just below my practise cell. If I am wrong, Robin, please correct me. 19/8/2003 7:47
45 Let the games begin! Ayinla ( ayinsao )
OK, so now it looks like we've come to the "spilling the beans" sectionof this thread. Well, you had your chance folks .... And hey girls! You are all really letting the side down. Confession is good for the soul! And you can't have those treacherous Robin Sengupta types going around still thinking that those lily-livered, simpering, Loreto maidens were Darjeeling's contribution to female pulchritude. No, guts, no glory. Buck up! 19/8/2003 8:30
46 Ahhhh....let the fun begin!!! Bachan ( bachan@4st.wlink.com.np )
June, June…you have now trespassed upon holy ground, the unwritten rule of, 'thou shall not name thy friend and neighbour, never mind it was many moons ago'!

By naming Robin with someone, you have now flung open the door on each Hermonite's secret corner...pretty crushed one at that (!!)....one that will now be very difficult to close!

Me thinks lot of interesting names and incidents will be forthcoming now!

Picking up on that thread and one that needs to be reported on the trespasser, June, you managed to have a few crushes didn't you? Annie, Zeena, Sue and now you say Ayinla.. Pray tell, who else??! ;-)
19/8/2003 8:34
47 Oops and Yipes! Bachan ( bachan@4st.wlink.com.np )
Ayinla ...great minds think alike. I read June's contribution and immediately responded, not knowing that you were on a similar mission, with the same frame of mind...so much so that even our heading are like twins! Wonder if you are a Capricorn?! We are the best! Wonder why we never paired up in school!! Perhaps you had your eyes to the east and me to the west huh?! ;-)
19/8/2003 8:40
48 June in August Ayinla ( ayinsao@yahoo.com )
June! Is that June as in Anuraj Mishra? Actually, "someone" I was really close to had a crush on you! And, of course, we all supported her impeccable taste (though you and Robin did both commit the very forgiveable sin of "pairing up" with the sweet Ann Gardner). I'm glad that your "crush" did remain a secret all these years though because it might have caused some heatburn between best friends back then. Having just come through the French heatwave and the blaster worm, I have to confess this is the kind of heart"warming" I'm quite partial to! And if only your confession had come a week earlier I could have resorted to a Bachan-type "umbi" borrowing excuse - "June, could you please help me with this problem I'm having with my computer ...." You get my medal for bravery and all the well deserved glory! Tan tara!! 19/8/2003 8:43
49 Lady in Red Ayinla ( ayinsao@yahoo.com )
So, Ved, the lady of your unrequited crush entered and left your life in a blaze of glory. If anyone in this thread deserves a "Certified 24 Carat Gold Crush Medal" it's you. You even remember what she wore! That's one more point for you in the "Why guys like Ved are crush-worthy" column. Whereas, that remark about cricket matches, unfortunately, rather evens the score on the other side of the column. Maybe not quite cricket but then - all's fair in love and war! And please, don't leave us in suspense. Do continue .... 19/8/2003 9:3
50 Fools seldom differ Ayinla ( ayinsao@yahoo.com )
Ah Bachan! Should've, would've, could've!! Maybe if Lochan had been more timely with his "brotherly" advice, we would have realised that there were fish other than those in our picnic sardine sandwiches in the MH sea. Oh, and just one little correction if I may - Capricornians are probably the best but one. That special place being reserved for Aquarians. 19/8/2003 9:12
51 Joy??? Robin ( sengupt_ark@yahoo.com )
Has anyone noticed how Joy has quietly melted into the background?
Since she hasn't been forthcoming - maybe someone can . . . you know . . . prod her memory a bit . . . or throw something out for the rest of us.
June??? Joe & Joy's brother?? Hmmm . . . violin practice - huh?
I'm glad you don't know the story about Neena, Miss Morrison [anyone remember her??] & me . . . and, later, Bhuntay!!!
Ha! Ha!
Do I sense some antennae tingling???
:)
19/8/2003 10:34
52 NB: Robin ( sengupt_ark@yahoo.com )
Lochan, Bachan!
Have you noticed Barbie is conspicuous by her absence here?
Are you guys close enough to Ann to deliver a [not so] gentle reminder that we expect more from her?
Or do you think we'll have to shake her dates for her???
:D
Do you think we should leave Barbie out of this - since she was so nice to all of us at the Reunion????
Personally - I think - "No Mercy".
Once June opened the floodgates - I think we can safely say it's 'Open House' on the can of worms - if I may mix my mangled metaphors - hey! 5 words in a row starting with 'm' . . . that must qualify me for something - no???
So . . . is it thumbs up . . . or thumbs down . . . on Barbie, Joy & Annie???
19/8/2003 10:49
53 Tangent . . . Robin ( sengupt_ark@yahoo.com )
Have you noticed how this thread has taken a sinister turn . . .?
:| . . . Gulp . . .
It went from 'secret crushes' . . . to . . . 'Robin & Neena under the tree . . .' & now I'm looking for targets to lash out at . . .
. . . tsk . . . tsk . . .
19/8/2003 10:53
54 Oh my my! Ann ( zpoonte@hotmail.com )
June had a crush on Ayin..... now that's more like what I want to hear from everyone.....kind of like "hey S, I always had a terrific crush on you and even if it's now 30 years down the line I just wanted you to know that now" etc etc... LOL. Way to go, June!

Ayin, I agree absolutely with you that " a crush should be reserved for only the truly unattainable". That's the fun part of having crushes....the so near, yet so far sort of thing. But then I also kind of agree with Ved about first loves / school crushes being eternal and there always being a lingering hope that we will meet again. Amen to that ,Ved.

And hey Ved, for some strange reason your mysterious Niloufer sounds to me like some character in a Salman Rushdie book! Oh and by the way, let me get this straight, June had a crush on Ayinla who had a crush on Robin who went round with Ann Gardner who also went around with June....LMAO ....hey guys, this is better than a soap-opera!
19/8/2003 11:22
55 Yikes! lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
Hey this site/thread has suddenly come alive thanks to June's revelation on Ayin and his detective work on Robin. Add to that Bachan. I just dropped a hint that June probably had crushes on more than one lady fair and he takes off like a concorde, naming each and every one of them. When will he learn to be more subtle? Was June paired up with Anne? Must be after I left because she was still strong with Robin till the winter of '76

Seriously Robin, what is this June is accusing of? If Dubs were to see what is written, he will dip you in shit and roll you in bread crumbs. After all you did worse to him elsewhere! Before he does that, you better 'fess up properly. You can run to USA but you cannot hide.

Robin, you are right about Joy. Suddenly she has slipped into the background. She has not confessed anything at all. Joy, just because you run this site so wonderfully, it does not give you the right and excuse to blend into the background and not confess to anything. Take a leaf out of your younger brother, June and confess now.

Ok the gold medal goes to Ved and June amongst the guys and to Ayin and Ann among the girls. Let us see who will knock them off tomorrow.

BTW Ayinla, that is June as in Anuraj Mishra. He of the many crushes!
19/8/2003 11:55
56 Robin and Lochan Joy ( joy@success.net.th )
I shall humbly comply...Lochan, a leaf out of my brother would be "spilling the beans"...so here goes. I believe Tip had a crush on one of the guys in our class in 1976 (in spite of Boga)...that fellow was studious, shy, quiet, reserved, innocent, in Stahl house, a cricket player in 1st XI....guess who that could be, eh, Lochan? 19/8/2003 14:33
57 Whoa!! Romeo!! Robin ( sengupt_ark@yahoo.com )
. . . Lochan . . . seems like you were quite the man!!
Studious, shy, quiet . . . cricket player . . .
hmmmm . . . too bad about the Stahl House part of it!!!
:)
:D
19/8/2003 14:47
58 Who me? lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
June what have you started.....spilling the beans is too tame a word.

Joy, I did not ask you to confess on behalf of Tip! That is easy to do....confess on behalf of others. Speak for yourself and don't yank this site out of the web just because we are forcing you to come clean!

Tip, Mawi and I were very good friends. Just that: good friends. Hey those two were paired up with other guys: Tip with Sushil (Boka) and Mawi with Kailash (Hanuman). If she had a crush on me, well she must confess right here. You can tell her that when you meet her for lunch today at Pasand or Mrs. Balbir's.

Robin, I was called cricket crazy by my friends. I do not know how it came about but I think it must have been after the 1971 tour of India to the West Indies and the subsequent tour of India to England. Ved played a bit part in making me cricket crazy by giving me some photos of cricket players. Had lots of fun playing cricket for MH. Loved it.

59 Siblings and chocolates!!! Bachan ( bachan@4st.wlink.com.np )
Friends, Hermonites and Schoolmates….lend me your ears….I have come not to bury the past, but to revive it ….for here lies a certain 26-year-old baffling mystery that our gracious web-hostess, who with one stab has solved, and she is a honourable woman!

Back in ’76, why was this, a blushing hormone-not-kicked-in-yet class 8 lad, a regular recipient of 5 Star chocolate bars, Glenary cakes and other goodies from the most fancied girl in a 100 mile radius? There would pop this short-skirted senior (as short a skirt as the school permitted) into our class just before the evening studies with a twinkle in her eyes and Stars in her hands! Unfortunately, the class-desks at MH didn’t provide sufficient cover to hide under, though on reflection my good friend, Indianoba Tally was right in saying, perhaps I should have tried the side cupboard instead! As honourable people, you can imagine the consternation and glee (more the latter, less of the former) of my classmates and friends on these constant turn of events! Plural.

Wasn’t it another great MH Crush tradition in looking after the younger siblings of their crush?! Being such a beneficiary, I have nothing but fine words of encouragement on this noble MH tradition. After all, we are all honourable women and men.

60 Confessions June ( june@novastel.com.hk )
Robin, please don't take it personnaly but I am not done yet. First of all, I am not surprised Miss Morrison and Bhuntey were on to you and Neena. HA! HA! Maybe spending too much time spying on you during violin practise resulted in me not being able to play beyond "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "Ba Ba Black Sheep" on my violin, despite trying to master the violin for 3-4 years. Also resulted in Miss Bailey (my violin teacher) always knocking on my knuckles with her violin stick because I could never see-saw the correct tunes. You were my man back then, Robin. I can still picture you and Neena under the tree after 30 years Robin. That should speak for itself. HA! HA!

Bachan - you do have an excellent memory.

Lochan - you asked about a certain Miss Pradhan (in para 25). No need to go far my friend, - your own brother Bachan should be very familiar with a certain Miss Pradhan - Shiela?. Bachan, please help me and elaborate on this. I am giving you a chance Bachan.

Ayinla - yes I know how tight your "Gang of Four" was and I know what you mean. Where are the others?

Siddhiphat (Bulldog) is certainly missing from this subject. The Master!
20/8/2003 1:13
61 Siddipat Mars ( akmondal@lntebg.com )
As far as I remember, Siddipat was the subject of an extremely fierce struggle between Jenny Johnston and Peechong - whether that is a happy or a sorry state to be in for a guy is anybody's guess.
I think Peechong ultimately tore Siddi away from Jenny on Sale Day ('76).
It's quite likely that Siddi had many more hidden aces.
20/8/2003 1:21
62 Sheila Pradhan Bachan ( bachan@4st.wlink.com.np )
June, I am not quite sure if you mean I had a crush on Sheila (which I did not) or whether I should delve into who she was. As the first option is a dead-end, let's pick up on the second.

Sheila Pradhan was my classmate (ICSE 1978) and a cute little thing at that. I remember her way back from class 2 or 3. As you can see, the exact year fails me, as there was no ‘crushing’ interest!

She was best buddy with Aroti Sisodia, who very sadly passed away in a car accident a couple of years after our ICSE year. We, her classmates, sorely miss her.

While at MH in 2000, I met Sheila’s elder sister, Mrs. Saroj Pradhan Fernandez, the wife of the current MH Principal, who informed me that Sheila is married and settled in Dubai. I did have her address and phone number but alas did never contact her. Unfortunately, my hand-held organizer crashed and with it went her contacts.

Now the question is, June, did you have a crush on Sheila??
I know Rajiv Mehta did, and he was quite senior to us...perhaps that speaks for itself in terms of Sheila’s charms and looks!! Another victim was my good friend Napadol Kirivong, who I believe is also in Dubai...hmmm...and before anyone says anything, no, Shiela is not married to Napadol...but, in the same city??? double hmmmmm!!!

Over to you June, Napadol, Rajiv and others standing on the Sheila alter!!... ;-)
20/8/2003 1:45
63 Shiela Pradhan June ( june@novastel.com.hk )
No Bachan, I did not have a crush on Shiela. My mistake - I thought you had a crush on her. I guess Sue would know who your crush was, as you were friendly with her. Pity she cannot spill the beans on you now. Well, I tried... 20/8/2003 2:56
64 Memories June ( june@novastel.com.hk )
Ann has an excellent memory on crushes. Lochan has an excellent memory on everything. Bachan has an excellent memory on crushes. It seems I am the only one with a short span memory except for Robin and Neena.

Lochan, you did tell me a couple of years back in Hong Kong who your crushes in MH were. My friend, best you speak up now or I spill the beans, you innocent bystander.
20/8/2003 3:3
65 AHA!! Joy ( joy@success.net.th )
Lochan....face the music...we are waiting, and counting down...
Thanks, Bachan - 5-star the energy bar and Glenary's cake given to the "little" brother - vital evidence, what clearer signs do we need! The truth has been revealed and seconded.
20/8/2003 5:5
66 not me! lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
Hey it was not me who had the crush. So don't point that accusing finger at me. If you want something from the horse's mouth you ought to find the horse in the first place. Not that Tip looked like a horse, far from it. However you have to get her to confirm if your story on her crush is true. Not me. I was and am an innocent by-stander...the linesman and not the player.

As for me, I cannot confirm if Bachan was at the receiving end of all those goodies. He never shared it with me and I am just finding out that he got all those things.

Alas! If someone wanted to grab my attention, she should have followed the wise dictum, "The way to a man's heart is thorough his stomach". So instead of going in a roundabout way and giving all those delicious eatables to my brother, she should have given it to me directly. At least the perpetual hunger pangs that we used to suffer from would have been ameliorated somewhat.

67 With his conversation the godless destroys his neighbour” (Prov. 11:9). ved ( vedamarchand@hotmail.com )
This is in response to hit no 49, Lady in Red, by my new found friend Ayinla. Considering the fact that Niloufer left Darjeeling under rather controversial circumstances, I am debating whether or not it is an invasion of privacy and propriety that I divulge information that may perhaps show her family in poor light. I think that I will set an example of moral behavior and not invade upon her privacy and confidentiality. I just cannot bring myself to betray her confidence. Ofcourse, it is not fair that I wet your appetite with a “Salman Rushdie script” and then refuse to disclose the ending – a million apologies. Niloufer is too precious a memory, too treasured a friend for me to speak flippantly about. I will of course hasten to mention, that she had to leave Darjeeling in a hurry, for no fault of her own – she was the epitome of uprightness, morality and decency and was a warm and compassionate friend.

20/8/2003 5:46
68 hear hear lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
Ved, bravo. The way to go.

Friends like you are hard to find. I hope you will not divulge her secrets. You are a privy to someone's confidence and not revealing it is the way to go. It has been a great privelege to know you.

Lochan
20/8/2003 5:57
69 FOUL!!! Robin ( sengupt_ark@yahoo.com )
NOT FAIR - JOY!
You're not getting away with that 'confession'.
'Tip had a crush on Lochan' . . .
You have to tell us about your own crushes!!! [Note the plural].
:)

70 Gift horses and all that Ayinla ( ayinsao@yahoo.com )
Lochan! Hasn't anyone ever told you not to look a gift horse in the mouth (albeit the specimens of the species we were more familiar with were the rather sorry nags circumambulating Chowrastha)? For heaven's sake, just accept the fact that Tip did have a crush on you with the grace it deserves! Surely you must be aware that there were more than a few guys willing to part with their biannual Sunday teatime shortbread quota to be in her good books. (Hoping the food metaphor will work this time.) And if you protest any further the only conclusion that we, the habuitués of this thread, can come to is that (COULD IT BE?!?) the crush was reciprocated ..... 20/8/2003 10:50
71 And a gentleman, too! Ayinla ( ayinsao@yahoo.com )
What can I say Ved? With one brilliant stroke you have singlehandedly rescued the reputation of the male Hermonite proving that indeed the distinction of being called gentlemen wasn't reserved solely for those guys in light grey flannel from the top of town with surgically implanted umbrellas (at least in my time - Bachan, those poor deprived creatures obviously never experienced the joys of umbi borrowing) aka Paulites. And as for me, dear friend, I was not intending to lead you into tempation - you did, after all, end your heart-wrenching revelation with a rather cliff-hanging "Later I received ...." 20/8/2003 11:30
72 Thank you Ayinla and Lochan Ved ( vedamarchand@hotmail.com )
True friends are those who care;
True friends are those who share;
True friends are always there;
Of them, you don’t have to beware.

I must thank both you and Lochan for the most kind and generous words – I am deeply touched. They have set my heart aglow. Ayinla, we may be a diverse group and we represent all ages and walks of life. Yet we share unparralled bonhomie and camaraderie. Our alma mater is the thread that binds us all together, and the single thread we all share. Whatever else it taught us, it did teach us to be considerate and kind. It taught us to be good human being and to walk in awe of our God. We are all in debt of our beloved school - The least we can do is to follow the legacy that MH laid out for us. Lochan was a small boy when I left school – yet I distinctly remember him… you Ayinla, I presume where in school long after I left, so I did not have the privilege and honour of knowing you – the loss is all mine.
20/8/2003 13:45
73 Foul (2) Dubs ( raikonam@ihug.co.nz )
Hey guys,
It's not in my nature to divulge contents of e-mail I receive but I am compelled to reveal this one. I was threatened with an electronic House mark by Joy if I did not start spilling more beans.
I echo Robin and Lochan's sentiments. Joy, you haven't let loose a single bean yet. Come on ! Enough of putting guilt trips on others. I talked about a certain Miss Pradhan but Ayinla deemed it to be a cop out with a 'phuleez' if you please. Come on... we were encouraged to love our teachers.
Still waiting Joy !

74 Stand Tall ye Daughters and Sons from afar Bachan ( bachan@4st.wlink.com.np )
Friends of yore, look over your shoulder, we stand behind you.

The bonds cast at school many years ago, distance and time cannot undo. Our lives were entwined once, binding us in an enchanting spell. The magic woven had ingredients of love, care, trust, and loyalty in it. That was our bond, our eternal pledge.

Since then, the years have fled, but the magic holds true.

I express solidarity with Ved, whose experience in school wasn’t unique. At times, history does seem to repeat itself, in parts. However, in deference to my particular friend, I was and still am unwilling to speak. Trust and loyalty stands firm. Life never dishes out equal treatment to all, and for this, we stand behind you, our friends of yore.
21/8/2003 1:27
75 Teacher's pet Ayinla ( ayinsao@yahoo.com )
Dubs, well you certainly took the advice (highly suspect, BTW -anything unattributed like that is liable to amount to hearsay or heresy) to love your teachers literally. You married one! I'll let you off on the cop-out on the grounds that you always had a thing for teachers anyway. 21/8/2003 6:7
76 Joy on the run lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
Band on the run was a song that was popular when we were in school. I think that has been taken over by the sound of Joy on the run. Despite Robin, Dubs et al. she refuses to divulge her secret crushes. Instead she spills the so called beans on me.

Ayinla, I really cannot confirm the things that Joy wrote about Tip's crush. I have asked Tip to check out this thing written by Joy and respond. So hopefully you will get something from the horses's mouth after all. Joy, "En guarde sil vous plait!". Actually Joy too has asked her to have a look at it and respond. In due course all will be revealed is she can get to open this page.

Ved, thanks for your kind words. You were one of my heros in school so kind words from you mean a lot. Even today after so many summers. Old friends are loyal friends........now where did I hear that?
21/8/2003 7:36
77 Ved The Man June ( june@novastel.com.hk )
Ved, your input #72 is indeed very touching. Perfect words and feelings put together very well. 21/8/2003 7:51
78 The spell will never be broken Ayinla ( ayinsao@yahoo.com )
Ved this is as good as place as any to get to know each other. Anyway, MH is the bond that ties us all together. As far as I'm concerned there will always be a part of us that is forever young playing in MH's fields of dreams. I often think about what that magic was. I think it had a lot to do with the fact that it was run by adults who still remembered what it was like to be children. To used a cliched term, the "inner child" was not only alive but being constantly nurtured. It's the simple "rules" I learnt in MH that work best. And it's the simple pleasures that are always the most satisfying. I joined MH in 1971, rather intimidated by those stone walls looming out of the mist. When I left in 1979 I knew that the benison they had breathe on me those 8 years would last me all my life. 21/8/2003 8:17
79 ok . . . Robin ( sengupt_ark@yahoo.com )
Now that Ved, Lochan & Ayinla have totally founded, nurtured & bloomed their Mutual Admiratoin Society . . . can we get back to basics - i.e. "spilling the beans"???
Oh . . . before that . . . can I join the MAS, please. I love all you guys too!!!
:)
Oh . . . and Ayinla . . . I'm real surprised that you said this:
"And all of you who confessed on crushes of teachers: PUHLEEZ! What a cop out!"
REAL surprised . . . esp considering the events that started unfolding in 1978 - my first year as a teacher in MH . . .
Folks . . . I think our Ayinla doth dissemble . . . forsooth.
:) [smile]
:D [bigger smile!]

80 Confession. Thinley ( thinley_d@hotmail.com )
Confession#1 Groovy Mr. Glasby........the girls with me all had a certain degree of crush on him..........he sang and played the guitar. Although his subject (Geog) wasn't real great....We looked forward to his classes.....to listen to him and watch his moves! Can't forget the last night of socials when he had his band playing for us live!!!We used to purposely go over to Mrs Glasby just to see Mr.Glasby!

Confession#2 Can anyone have a crush on how someone looked? Tip!!!!! What we would have given to look like her. She looked good all the time but the best in her swimsuit! Please forgive me but I have to mention something We never understood about her was her boyfriend......He was just damn lucky...that's what we used to say!

Confession #3 I was in class 2.......that was the first time I heard of the word "crush" When Miss Morrison,a real great teacher confessed her crush on a classmate of mine.....Lobzang.

So crushes went all ways.....teachers and students.....students and teachers......girls and girls......boys and girls.....girls and boys.....

I hope I got things correct!
21/8/2003 11:53
81 spilling Bachan's beans Ann ( zpoonte@hotmail.com )
June, you're right I do have an excellent memory on crushes or at least I had an excellent source who kept me updated long after I left MH. No prizes for guessing, Bachan. I understand you were the target of a heavy crush by a classmate of yours in 6S....rem'ber Bachu Rani Gupta? ;)

Robin, whaddya mean you have to shake my dates for me? Hey I cut the ribbon on this thread with a confession, didn't I?
21/8/2003 12:26
82 Thin Ice . . . thin ice . . . !!! Robin ( sengupt_ark@yahoo.com )
"So crushes went all ways.....
teachers and students.....
students and teachers......
girls and girls......
boys and girls.....
girls and boys....."
- Thinley. [#80]

Ved Prakash - self appointed Referee - [see post # 37 above] - is poised with one hand on the whistle and one hand reaching for the red & yellow cards . . .

Thinley - you missed a few categories:
'teachers & teachers'
'teachers & non-teaching staff'

:D

I should stop there . . . Ved is already speeding in this direction - I think he knows where this could lead . . . !!
Ha! Ha!
Can you still run Ved??? I must confess - my legs are not what they used to be. I keep meaning to get back in shape. In my defense - I keep my hands & fingers & voice in good shape from playing guitar A LOT!! and singing . . .. Do you weild the willow at all these days - or flip the occasional googly??
21/8/2003 12:30
83 Hey! Ref!! Robin ( sengupt_ark@yahoo.com )
Ved:
Ann is definitely off-side. She asked me that question FOUR times . . .

Ann:
You call this:
"me and a couple of good pals had a major crush on one of the prefects, Som Singh Lama."
a confession???
Give me a break . . .
That's what I mean I'll have to shake your dates . . .
Let me put it this way . . .
If a teenager in MH says he has a crush on Britney Spears - that's not a 'confession'
When Justin Timberlake says he has a crush on Britney Spears - THAT's a confession.

84 Dodging... Joy ( joy@success.net.th )
Dubs, Robin, Lochan....I have been trying to squeeze my poor brains attempting to think of my "many crushes," but to no avail. Either my memory truely fails - and I need a severe and concentrated dose of ginkgo biloba, or I did not have crushes. After all having crushes did not get you supplies of Shangrila fried rice, Glenary's cakes, Anon's fried noodles, Narayan Das' Indian sweets on boys' leave days....I think I was narrowly focused.
In any case, over to you now Mars and Prach. And by the way, Robin, we need a list from you....

85 List? Robin ( sengupt_ark@yahoo.com )
Joy:
You need a List from me??
What list?
21/8/2003 14:36
86 Warrant issued for Robin Ved ( vedamarchand@hotmail.com )
Robin, I believe that you will be in Mumbai (Bombay) in December. Surat is just three and half hours away. Either you come over, or let me know and I'll come and see you.. a meeting is absolutely imperative - I have to strangle you, before the children start asking, "daddy/mummy, you were naughty weren't you?" 21/8/2003 20:2
87 Need an accomplice Ved ? Dubs ( raikonam@ihug.co.nz )
The offer is there Ved. I was wondering why there was a surge in the cat population. Now I know. Robin's letting them out of the bag left right and centre.
The list that Joy mentioned. From Gilbert and Sullivan's composition again:
"As some day it may happen that a victim must be found,
I've got a little list, I've got a little list." - The High Executioner. Hmmm! Talay will have to swim for his life.
Just changing tack... and actually addressing Robin now.
The Shilu Ao sisters were real head turners, eh Robin ? I know for a fact that Ayinla and Narola were generators of dhak dhaks big time. Could it be the reason for the vociferous
taunts from Ayinla ?

88 Right Robin!!! Thinley ( thinley_d@hotmail.com )
I guess I did miss out.......
teachers and teachers
teachers and nonteaching staff (does that mean TTC too)

From what I know,I am sure Dubs with his clan of bachelor teachers would have a lot more to say. Plus the fact that Dubs was there as a student in MH, MH,TTC and as a teacher in MH.Lets hear more from you.So much time and so little to say........can't be it!

Speaking of crushes.......crushes can come as a saviour too!!I was caught in Rink hall with 2 other friends when we should have been in bed fast a sleep by Mr.Fernandes and Miss Saroj Pradhan. We noticed them just 2 rows behind us when the Interval lights blazed on.Five pairs of eyes met!!!!Till now I can't say for sure whether we were more scared of our fate in store or whether they were more embarrassed of being seen together!!!

Thank God for crushes!!! Nothing was said either ways!!!I hope someday Mr.and Mrs.Fernandes will have something to say about it!!!

89 In defence of Joy lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
Ok Joy's got lousy memory. I can second that. She's been complaining of her memory ever since we met again after school in Bangkok in the mid 90's. I can vouch for that. She really may not have had any crushes. Joy was no pussycat. No crushes for her. No need to hide one's feeling eh Joy? She went straight for the jugular. You can tell us about all your boy friends starting from class 4, the year that you joined MH!!

Ved, Ayinla and Lochan form a MAS....yes yes yes. You scratch my back and I scratch yours. The universal law Robin.

90 Clueless in Darjeeling Bachan ( bachan@4st.wlink.com.np )
Most will agree that girls were miles ahead in the marathon as far as information on crushes was concerned. They always knew which boy liked, had a crush or was madly in love with whom. Yes, there were three categories and not merely a generic crush that most here on this discussion seem to evasively subscribe.

Girls were masters in this investigative art. Boys on the other hand, were utterly clueless. Not only on who liked, had a crush or was in love with them, but also that their own like, crush or love was known to the other side as well as her hordes of friends. No wonder, smirks, whispers, giggles and the incomprehensible cryptic remarks were thrown at the boy whenever the girls passed by in the corridors and passageways.

Perhaps it was because, as Ved put it, the boys preferred the cricket pitch while the girls, as Ayinla revealed, opted to observe the same white fannels clad bowler from the stand above.
Or perhaps the girls were always much more observant and bonded with each other more than the boys. Whatever it was, the girls were way ahead of the game.

91 Clueless Bachan june ( june@novastel.com.hk )
Bachan, is that why you never knew that Bachu Rani Gupta had a terrific crush on you, as per Ann's remarks.

Apparently both the Gyawali brothers had a problem. Neither ever knew they were being crushed upon.

Robin, aka Casanova, your list please.

92 Clueless Bachan II Ann ( zpoonte@hotmail.com )
Wonder why Bachan's choosing to ignore my post, June. Hmmmm maybe something happened behind the scene that we don't know about.....

Robin, what do you mean mine's not a confession??!! Ok Ok you're right. Som Singh was a true-blue big-time little girl crush but...... ackkk... I hate to admit this. I used to have this thing for Sonam Lepcha, yep Bachan your classmate. I was royally crushed when after we left MH he used to regularly write to my younger sister. Turned out he had a crush on her. Ouuuuchhhhhhhhhh

93 Clueless, Useless Bachan! Bachan ( bachan@4st.wlink.com.np )
That's right June, I had no idea on this sideshow in class 6! Perhaps the fact that I was busy making eyes at pretty Vicky that I never noticed anything amiss. I do remember Bachu Rani Gupta though. However, I think that would have been a completely one-sided crush.

For you folks wondering who this girl was, let me tell you, she (or her family at least) was very much a ‘sweet’ part of MHS! Bachu Rani's dad owned the Indian Sweet shop in town, which supplied the dinner dessert at school. In our days, Thursday was the 'Puri' and 'Indian-sweets' night!

If I am not mistaken, she did not return to school the following year, though I am not so sure. Being a day-scholar, she had very little to do with our daily school life. Too bad huh June, who know, I might have been able to supply you and other buddies with all the Jelabis, Gulab-Jamuns and other goodies had I opened my eyes, and from there, that door of opportunity! Hahaha!

Ann, pray tell who else had a crush on me and other classmates, for it seems your not-so-mysterious informant kept you in the ‘know’ well into our senior years despite that fact that you were not there. A testament to my earlier observation, that, girls bonded amongst themselves very well and were ahead in the race.

95 Ann delivers Robin the knockout punch Ved ( vedamarchand@hotmail.com )
Now there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that this page will displace the ‘World Cup’ page from its pedestal. Pushing Robin to second place is an achievement in itself and Ann deserves a pat on her back. She persisted and pleaded, goaded and provoked and eventually had her way. Let us hope that this is the beginning of a new phase where we do not allow the site to remain dormant. Let us widen our horizons. Not only must the regular contributors continue to remain active, but they must also try and motivate and induce their friends to join in. I cannot fathom why some of our friends have no qualms in sending each other emails, but have reservations in contributing to this site. The sparring between Lochan, Bachan, Ann and the rest leads me to the logical conclusion that yours must have been one hell of a jovial batch …. Maybe even as good as the 1971 bunch 22/8/2003 6:51
96 Closing in on the kill Ayinla ( ayinsao@yahoo.com )
Despite various diversory tactics and pulling-wool-over-eyes tricks I think everyone on this thread is finally homing in on the the Great Teller of MH Tales, the Sengupta, the Talay - given the fact that he has otherwise on this website demonstrated time and again his unsurpassed powers of memory retention, I can tell you that he is now suffering from selective memory loss. June mentions "lists" as well as "Casanova" in the same breath. His sister Joy, our great webmistress, also mentions a "list" (hmmmm!? - family secret?) Half-baked red herrings like Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears are not going to save ur butt (birthday suit clad (for those of you wondering about this please refer to his midnight swimming exploits) or otherwise). So Robin, if u tell, I will .... What do u say fellow Founding Members of the MAS, dear brothers-in-arms, Locahn and Ved?? 22/8/2003 16:24
97 class of 76 lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
Ved, class of '76 (SC 76 that is....there was also the first batch of ICSE Class 10 graduates that year.) was THE best graduating class of the 70's! Class of '71 and '72, the other two great classes, do not even remotely compare to us. I know I am going to get a lot of flak from Robin, Dubs and you on this but that is the truth! Ok anything to goad people to write here. Hey look at the classes of 73,74,75 and 77. No contribution from them. We had some of the most memorable characters.

Joy is still avoiding the spilling her own beans. Ah perhaps she is too busy counting the beans in her Successful business. You cannot avoid these precision guided missiles all the time. You will have to come clean.

22/8/2003 23:14
98 What ??? Dubs ( raikonam@ihug.co.nz )
Lochan my friend,
Go to your doctor for an urgent checkup ! This deserves a surface to air missile as it's pie in the sky. Agreed that 71 was special and the other seventy somethings were above average but 1972 ..... absolutely beyond compare. Why, they even selected 16 Prefects instead of the usual 12. They had a crush on us man ! THAT (underlined and bold) is the truth Lochan. Wake up and smell the coffee mate. You'll discover that there are people out there who had a secret crush on you.
23/8/2003 1:13
99 Ha! lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
Ha! Dubs, Dubs, Dubs. Where are you??? I know NZ is a paradise but perhaps living in such tranquil place in a remote location on the globe and being right next to the coldest continent does something to one's sense of good, better and best. SC '71 was good. SC '72 was better than SC '71 but SC'76 was the best. Hey perhaps it is that earthquake in NZ yesterday that knocked your sense off the plumb line.

If they had 16 prefects it just shows that the school was a pretty rowdy place at the time. Nothing to do with how good or bad you guys were! Agreed class of 72 had great guys and girls (Gayzen being one, Niloufer Haque being the other!) but you seriously expect me to believe that you were better than class of 76?? Take a hike!

Ok am going to start gulping down mugs of coffee to wake me up........ Dubs, will let you know when I wake up. A very sarcastic Ha again to you Dubs.

Now awaiting the response of Ved and Robin. Wonder what they have to say. Naturally guys from say class of 74 and 75 like Kuruvin Boonlong and Barbara N Roy who only look here but do not say anyting must be fuming!! Ha.
23/8/2003 1:44
100 Wake up and smell the coffee! Ayinla ( ayinsao@yahoo.com )
Dubs and Lochan stop quibbling (you know what they say about you men and growing up ...) - '71, '72, '76 - same difference OK! More importantly, if a handful of us, the brave and the even-not-so-free, have taken things this far just imagine the possibilities of this chain. It has the potential of becoming a MH tradition. Of course, many beans do often make a lot of gas but as long us we have referees like Ved and Lochan surveilling the site I'm sure we won't explode into oblivion even by the dropping of a few unexpected bombshells (right, June?). Lochan, you already have your freezer turned down low enough to freeze the memory of the lovely Gayzen. I would suggest you put it to better use by chilling the champagne for the day we (soon) "knock the 'World Cup' page from its pedestal". And Ved, please do get a move on with the photo of the aforementioned beauty - she can definitely be the icing on our celebratory cake. 23/8/2003 3:30
101 Wide awake lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
Ayinla, I am fully awake coffee or no coffee. To this end, Joy, Mars and I have been goading Tip Boonlong by email to visit this site and this thread in particular and read about herself and put in a few tid bits that is sure to fire the site. Unfortunately the response has been typically Tip. "I'll get down to it later on". Such an useless lazy lump of lard the girl is. Must be the Bangkok heat and humidity. Perhaps Ann and Ayinla should write to her as well. You two are good at getting things moving.

Ved is good at keeping his word (here we go again with the MAS!!!) and I am sure that he will keep his word with pictures of Gayzen and Niloufer.

That piece on SC '76 etc was just to get some more people to kick in something here. It is, as someone said it, "All in good humour".
23/8/2003 6:28
102 ...now that you,ve ordered me Ayinla Ved ( vedamarchand@hotmail.com )
Chivalry is not dead. Thy wish is my command comrade Ayinla. How can I say no to a lady? The photograph of Gayzen will be there for everyone to gaze ( pun intended) at on Tuesday. My scanner is in the office. Tomorrow is a Sunday, the office is closed. I will concede without any hesitation that the 1976 batch was better than the 1971 one… the 71 batch was taught to be bighearted and charitable to its brethren and give credit even where it was not due. It is the inherent nature of the fruit-laden tree to humbly bow before the not so well endowed - but honestly any batch that had Lochan in it could not have been anything but 'the best'. 23/8/2003 7:30
103 In anticipation Dubs ( raikonam@ihug.co.nz )
Beloved Hermonites,
This thread initiated by Ann has been such a hoot and drawn us together in true Mount Hermon spirit. It is an ongoing reunion. Keep the flame burning (including secret crushes).
I suggest that the new record hit of 105 be saved for Ann as a kind of celebration. Looking forward to what you have to say on this auspicious occasion.
23/8/2003 7:53
104 Ann Lepcha!! Bachan ( bachan@4st.wlink.com.np )
Ann, how do you like the subject heading of this thread?! Does have a nice ring to it, don't you think?! Who knows, had you continued on at school, today we might be calling you AL!! ;-) So, it was Sonam Lepcha was it? Glad you kept it within our batch!
I am sure our mutual friend, who steadfastly refuses to join in this mélange, has updated you on news about Sonam. I did meet him a couple of years ago in Gangtok. He is doing well and might I add, looking exactly like he did 25 years ago! Should we have a class reunion anytime soon? Been exactly 25 years since our ICSE days you know!
23/8/2003 8:46
105 tie lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
Hi, this message means that this thread is now tied with Robin's thread. It has brought a great many of us together sharing some of our deeper feelings and other insights. Just a small thanks to Ann for taking the initiative for this truly imaginative thread. Too bad the rest of the Hermonites have missed all the fun of the past one month or so. Love all you guys who contributed here and made this such a great place to visit. Cheers and peace! 23/8/2003 11:29
106 The dye is cast, the debate over Bachan ( bachan@4st.wlink.com.np )
At the name of our Crush,
Every knee shall bow,
Every tongue confess them,
Rulers of our hearts now!

Hermonites, it is time to salute our old school Crushes. All those who caused dhuk-dhuks and flutters in our lives, we thank you. You enriched our lives and for this we are forever grateful.

Ved, you are hereby required by popular outpour, to amend your earlier thesis on how boys really want to spend their time! It seems many more are eager on being starry eyed than in watching leather against willow. Apparently, boys went to watch Robin’s cricket match for lack of better things to do. Just makes you so sorry for them Paulites and Spaggies, don’t you think?!

Ann, you do our batch proud. Needless to say, should we combine total hits on just two topics initiated by us, “Secret Crush” and “Bunking’s Favourite” we have a total walk-over on all the other batches, thereby laying to rest the one-sided and so-called debate on the best batch at school. As they say, action speaks louder than words.

Robin, I completely agree that being soft on Barbara is out of sync. She may have hosted the get-together but how are we to confirm that? Where is the proof that the reunion actually did occur? We ain’t see nothing. Nothing on the website confirming anything on that. No write ups, no photos. Ladies and gentlemen, we want prima facie evidence before we pass a verdict. So, I vote that Barbara be brought before the online Hermonite pow-wow to give evidence on her crushes. Afterall, she was very popular in school and I am sure the stories by her would get us another century here!

On that happy note, I rest my case and look forward to rejoinders as well as rebuttals.

107 Not over yet Ann ( zpoonte )
Guys, you sound like just because we hit the 100 sth mark this thread is dead. Far from it is what I say because we still haven't heard the full stories from some of our big guns like Robin and Joy.

Robin, I don't consider a 7 minute crush as any kind of crush. That happens to all of us everyday so c'mon now, give us the 'list'! I conceded to your appeal so let's see you return the favour.... please pretty please?

Bachan, yikes, your heading stinks! Like I said Sonam had his eye on my sister and started this correspondence with her to my great chagrin but luckily she turned out to be a lousy letter-writer so that ended quickly. Phew!

Ved, Lochan, Dubs, Ayin,June and everyone else......if this thread has posted more runs on the scoreboard than Robin's cricket memorabilia, it's been entirely thanks to you folks. I just wanted to put up a thread that would get everyone involved and enough at ease with each other so we could form a little online community with the shared background of MH.

109 No, RIP this please! Ayin ( ayinsao@yahoo.com )
My thoughts exactly Ann - hits #105 & #106 sound too much like RIPs. Whereas this thread is still alive and will continue to keep kicking as long as our fickle hearts beat. June posted a real "Aaaah! So cute!" revelation on the Bunking thread that actually deserves to be here. But as I'm the blushing receipient I can only ask you all to check it out - posting #47. He's really giving Ved a run for his money. Sigh! What's a girl to do? 24/8/2003 10:16
110 Miles to go before we sleep.... Bachan ( bachan@4st.wlink.com.np )
Ayinla, I doth disagree with thee.
While the first half of thread 106 was for us to pause, go down on our knees to reflect, acknowledge and thank our crushes (even Robin's batsmen, upon reaching 100, pull off their helmets and wave their bats vigourously), the second half is anything but asking for an end! Surely, the attempt to snag Barbara N. Roy into this room does not damn this discussion for demise. Besides, am sure there is lots of interesting stories dying to be told. Why, we haven't even attempted to pull in the older generation. James Sinclair, where are you? As I said earlier, we look forward to 100 more rejoinders and rebuttals!

111 Apologies, Ann Bachan ( bachan@4st.wlink.com.np )
Yes, perhaps that heading in thread 104 went a bit overboard and I apologize. Hope there wasn’t bruising of sensitivity there and you looked at it more in jest. The heading does stink, and I take it back. Sorry once again.

112 7 minutes crush everyday june ( june@novastel.com.hk )
Ann - 7 minutes crush everyday? Wow - your list has to be much longer than the 2 or so that you mentioned. 25/8/2003 2:51
113 Uh Uh Ann ( zpoonte@hotmail.com )
Erm June, that was just a figure of speech meant to show Robin how unimpressive his so-called confession was. Moi, a list? Sounds to me like you have one yourself. Does it run into double figures? :P
Yep Ayin, I read post #47 on the Bunking thread. What a gallant Sir Galahad you had back then. A rescuer of damsels in distress indeed. Oo la la!

Sorry folks, try as much as I could I could not upload the three photos that I had so painstakingly but lovingly scanned for all to savour. However, I have emailed them to Bachan with the request that he should post them on the site as he seems to know how to do it. 25/8/2003 19:6
115 mother of all crushes lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
If you do not know what Ann is talking about when she refers to #47 in the bunking thread, I quote hereunder my dear friend June. This is in respect to what he wrote about our very own Ayinla. I quote,

"Incidentally, I do remember taking your name out of the house-mark box in the staff room."

Now if that is not an action of someone who has a crush as big and as deep as Grand Canyon, I do not know what is. In all fairness June did confess to his crush on Ayin. What he did not do was let us know how deep and big this crush was. We have to glean it from his inputs all over this site. The jigsaw is finally falling into place.

Ann thanks for bringing it up because somehow I had missed that comment of June. He should have put it here but he hid it quite cleverly inside the stencil room. June, you are too clever by half. I say, let us vote Ayin and Ann to be the leaders of the team to search for those elusive weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Then Saddam will finally meet his match! Hey no disrespect to you two.

116 Exhausting stuff Dubs ( raikonam@ihug.co.nz )
Gosh spilling the beans can be such an exhausting job. Everyone's having their "rest hour". Not a peep since the 25th of August. Oh yes, I must remember it's Autumn in the northern hemisphere...body's slowing down... nearly hibernation time.

Climbing this long (spilling the) bean stalk is pretty exhausting to say the least. Hey there is one more "pussy cat" that had a huge crush on me. You can read it in the thread by Sonam Pasang "Tally Ho....." in the previous page. I like this sort of crush any day. 3/9/2003 22:19

119 #1 with a bullet! Ayinla ( ayinsao@yahoo.com )
Better late than never - and how! You've topped the charts Alistaire! Welcome home! I've been waiting for you to make an appearance because you are, I suspect, indirectly responsible for this topic by your revelation of your crush on Awon in another topic many months ago. Do, please fill us in on the details before your "victims" tear you to pieces! As you can tell, I have my priorities right! 4/9/2003 7:59
120 Alistair started all this Ann ( zpoonte )
Yes Ayin, you're bang on target........Alistair and his long-lost but unforgotten love Awon was the source and inspiration for this thread. So step up and take a bow, Alistair! We've all waited a long time for you to fill us in so we expect to hear a lot more from you here 6/9/2003 7:42
121 Awon, Gone but not forgotton Alastaire Frederick ( afrederick99@hotmail.com.au )
Hi Ayinla and Ann,
As I think back of the unrequited love going back all these years it seems like it was only yesterday. It is all so fresh, the sights, smells and sounds of old MH and Darj and my little ms Prongo aka Prach. By way of details I take it you guys want to hear about Awon and what made me fall for her et al. Well I'd better get on with this before those guilty parties come for my scalp. Here goes....
I first set eyes on her when I was at the volleyball courts in fernhill, playing soccer as you do. A kid wanted to play with me and I thought he'd get hurt so I said no. A fiesty and very cute little naga girl stormed up to me wearing her swimming robe and demanded why he could not play. I beat a hasty retreat, mumbled something and felt a very strange and alien sensation in my midsection (it was First Love). I went about trying to find out who she was and couldnt see her anywhere in school. My pal Zarina Khan found out that she was in class 6 and knew her from Assam. Needless to say Good old Zarina became my best friend and deliverer of love notes and messages.
Love notes were passed and shy and furtive eye contact made when waiting for meals in the quadrangle, she on the balcony several stories up looking down on me like a proverbial Juliet, how my heart sang unlike my voice box which is totally off key. It was the best days of my young life. Every day was sunny and bright blah blah blah and I got ribbed by the guys with things like "She's not your one, she's Awon", bloody Sonam Rinchen was the biggest culprit. Not being able to walk around the hotel was the hardest thing but I got over it.
We sometimes brushed past each other in the corridor, several times if we could get away with it. Ms Hawke's antenna somehow zeroed in on me, maybe it was the drooling anticipation that gave me away but more probably it was the fact that I was always 2 feet off the ground. I used to buy her momos when I got town leave and her notes back made me forget my own sacrifice.I saw her at GHD and we actually hugged each other, promised to write and next year she would be in high school and ....let the fun begin.
Things went a little strange in class 8/7. she had told zarina that another boy in her class, Anil or Ashish, can't remember the swine's name, had told her he had had a crush on her and wanted to go around with her. Z said she was very confused and that I should back off until she made her mind up. Hurt and confused I obliged and threw myself into sports and eating vast quantities of bread and my fav banana cake. We occasionally said hi to each other but as time went on the ardour fizzled and I went on to have secret crushes on other girls whose names I cannot remember except for the ones mentioned above. We sort of had a clandistine relationship when I was in class 9, as Zarina said that Awon was a little too young to get involved in anything serious with a guy from a higher class and that I should wait for her to reach class 9. Unfortunately I was told mid year that I was to go to Australia to live. In between cheering and celebrations I had to accept the fact that I would never get to walk around the school or play fencing with my beloved Awon. She was excited for me but a little sad I think and we caught up a few times before I left, usually when it was misty and raining, under the tin roofed part outside Stewart house.
I guess my little Prach from the hills of Nagaland bding my first love will always have a special place in my memories and for all of you who have connected with your first love .......... GREat isnt it guys...More secrets coming soon. Ann & Ayinla post some photos of yourselves, I will be posting a whole heap from 72-74 and some recent ones soon. I will probably send them to Joy as computers are not my thing..Take care all and Love XXXX

122 Epic Ayinla ( ayinsao@yahoo.com )
Wow! What a love story! True love indeed - we don't need any further proof of that . It's all in the details! Now I'm really motivated to put some serious effort into tracking Awon down for you. I have fond memories of her, too. She was senior to me but took me under her wing and used to let me hang out with her. I remember some jam sessions in the music cells
banging chords out on the piano from one of those Thai song books with (supposedly) English lyrics and guitar chords - I felt as cool and hip as she was!

123 The W W Search for Awon Alastaire ( afrederick99@hotmail.com.au )
Hi Ayinla, thanks for taking the time to follow up the whereabouts of my biggest childhood crush. If I can help in any way please let me know. I never knew Awon was musically minded, just thought she was the hottest thing since sliced bread, cioa for now 7/9/2003 19:33
124 Awon Bachan ( bachan@4st.wlink.com.np )
Wasn't Awon the elder sister of Chanso? She was a class senior and he a class junior to me. I would think locating Awon should not be difficult.
I do remember Awon, but not all that clearly. Did she do her ICSE from MH? Perhaps not, that is why the memory is vague.

125 Mystery sonam ( sonam2100in@yahoo.co.in )
Hey everyone,
While Ann has done a great job initiating this epic saga on Secret Crushes with great contributions(read revelations) from all concerned, I was wondering about her own world wide web search titled 'Looking for Bishnu Malla !' on page 2 of the Community Page. May I ask if Bishnu was another of your crushes and now searching for him like Alistair is forlornly looking for Awon?
Lochan, Bachan, Joy, Dubs, Robin,Ayinla, June, Ved; how could you all have overlooked this vital piece of evidence and self confession by our Ann?

Prach, while you go on about Ann and her possible secret crush on Bishnu Malla, how about revealing your own? You take great pleasure in reading our crushes but it is now time to reveal yours. I do not see your revalations according to Prach!

Now, don't you say that your secret crush was an ancient Eve whom you bludgeoned with a blunt instrument and dragged her back to your pre-historic cave for an actual physical crush. We need your more recent history.......say between the years 1969 and 1976.....and a crush of a more gentle nature and pertaining to the heart and without the use of your heavy clubs.

We expect you to reveal it all.........your crush and not your anatomy.

128 Hi Prach June ( june@novastel.com.hk )
We need your help in revealing Lochan's crushes to us. Lochan has partial memory loss on this matter. And while you are at it, let us hear yours. 11/9/2003 4:7

June, we do not want you to provoke prach into such a precipitate action. You should instead help me pry open prach's secrets. June you make a good agent provocateur (sp??) but this is not the place for such activities!

By the way, my crushes have already been revealed so I do not need to reveal anymore.......but our man prach has to do a lot more than just write some innane stuff.

Hey, Raj! If we have succeeded in making some of you 'stealth' cruisers of the site finally surface then our mission has been accomplished, hasn't it June? Alas! Raj, bad timing once again - June tells me he has just gotten engaged! Maybe in our next birth! BTW, say Hi! to my dear batch mate Samden Lama and tell him I hope to see him in Calcutta along with you. And now that you are in the loop, how about sharing some heart-warming moments with us? You could start with a certain Sonam Y ... 13/9/2003 9:34
134 wong perception raj.choudhury ( mda_ncrajib@sancharnet.in )
Hi Ayinla !!

One gets the impression the crush was blooming. Anyway my perception was wrong.

As long as one has not paired up, there is immense opportunity for crushes. One can crane their neck as much as possible to have a glimpse of their FLAME. Even remove names from house mark box in the staff room if one happens to be a Prefect.
I have had a couple of requests from guys to remove the names of their FLAMES from the house mark box when I was a Prefect.

BTW this Samden you are referring to is not your batch mate. In fact he is much junior to you.
14/9/2003 12:37
135 Oops! Ayinla ( ayinsao@yahoo.com )
Raj let me sort this out, so there are two ex-Hermonite Samden Lamas and both in Darjeeling? I just presumed that the Samden Lama you referred to was my batch mate. I heard that one of my dayschi (remember that term?) Tibetan batch mates had become a monk. Do you happen to know who? BTW, don't think that I haven't noticed your red herring tactics - there are already too many contributors who haven't 'fessed up yet. Their tribe doesn't need to be increased so out it Raj! 14/9/2003 12:56
136 Oyez! Oyez! Ayinla ( ayinsao@yahoo.com )
Weren't we all in some play at some point in our MH lives which had a town crier who went "Oyez! Oyez!" For instance I remember being a rat or a sunflower in "Cinderella" where the "Oyezing" had to do with the announcement of the ball and the search for Cinderalla. Well, folks, I just want to announce here that the shoe fits - I have tracked Awon down for Alistaire and I hope that in keeping in the spirit of things they will have an online reunion to bring a tear to all our collective eyes. And, BTW, Ann, guess what you and she have in common? 14/9/2003 13:8
137 awon? lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
You located Awon for my dingo friend Alastaire? Great. Now the il capo de cosa nostra from down under may have to make a trip to India. Ayin do fill us in about Awon. She was quite a personality in school. I am sure there are not many from our times who will not remember her. Some sort of a pillar of MH if I may call her that. 15/9/2003 22:44
138 My lost love found, Yippie.. I think alastaire Frederick ( afrederick99@hotmail.com.au )
Ayinla you bewty mate. How in hell did you manage to track down the one and only Awon. Dont listen to Lochan guys, I'm not a Capo all the time, dont wont to scare her away just yet, although she did call herself Prach sometimes so I should be the one scared. Wow, its almost 30 years since I last saw her but I'm sure she's as beautiful as ever although not so small.
I was seeing a doco on Nagaland natives and Assam on TV the other day purely by accident and was wondering where the little darling is these day. So Ayinla hurry up with the news of her whereabouts et al and thanks heaps for all your efforts in tracking her. I may still make India or Nepal either on the way to Thailand or on the way back sometime next year, Thai Airways flys to Katmandu I believe. Stay in touch and Live long and prosper. Al

139 Samden Lhatoo June ( june@novastel.com.hk )
Hi Ayinla - Samden Lhatoo is in Hong Kong, if he is the Samden you are looking for. You can see him everyday on the TV evening news on one of the TV channels in HK.

Do I hear a crush, Ayinla?

Sonam and Robin, tsk tsk tsk, I get lost in cyberspace for a week and in that time I see you put two and two together and coming up with 100. Shame on you guys because Bishnu was just a very good friend. Of course he wasn't bad-looking though :P

June just got engaged? Congratulations, June! Do we all get invites to the big do?

Ok Ayin, so what do Awon and I have in common? Not a long-lost devotee that's for sure :(
16/9/2003 10:33
142 som lama lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
As Mr. West (Huddy) our maths teacher would have put it, the intersection between in Ann and Awon is their crush on Som Lama. Correct me if I am wrong! That is my best guess.

Sorry my dingo friend, il capo de cosa nostra from down under. Even while she was going around with you her heart was on Som Lama. Hey this is my best guess and not the gospel truth! Now we ought to complete this circle: Alastaire loves Awon who "loves" Som Lama who loves Bronwen who loves........ Ah well that is what MH was about in many ways. Love to all who read this.

143 baby la? lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
June, Brahma used to go around with Sonam Rinchen's sister, the one with extremely rosy cheeks. Sonam Rinchen was in my class but he seems to have vanished into the crevasses of Kanchenjunga. Are you in touch with Brahma who might be in touch with Sonam's sister who could give us some update on our dear friend from Sikkim? Now when you refer to Babyla is it the same person.......Sonam's sister? In that case it does not count. He moved openly with her so it was no secret crush. 17/9/2003 3:2
144 Yonden Lhatoo June ( june@novastel.com.hk )
Hi Ayinla - I made a mistake. The person who is in Hong Kong is Yonden Lhatoo and not Samden Lhatoo.

Ann- Thanks. Sure you have the invites when a date is fixed.
17/9/2003 3:6
145 Sonam Rinchen June ( june@novastel.com.hk )
Lochan - Brahma can be found in the Kolkatta reunion thread. He might know the whereabouts of Rinchen tap-tap. How come you are quiet about the reunion? 17/9/2003 3:10
146 Downloadable songs Mars ( akmondal123@yahoo.co.in )
Before I get to the subject matter posted as the heading of this piece, a few deviations, if you please -

Sonam Rinchen, like his nickname, appears to have vanished like a puff of air.

My memory of Brahma's true love (Baby-la or whoever) are dim but was she the same cherubic looking girl whom we also called 'Princess' ? Possibly because of her royal parentage, if I remember correctly (was she some cousing of Sonam?).

June - if you indeed do come for the reunion, why don't you yank your sister Joy along with you. I'm sure that, apart from old friends like me, there'll be hordes of people wanting to meet her and shake her hand. As I told her some time back, she deserves a medal for this wonderful site.

Now the main meat of this piece -

Another achievement of Joy that some of you guys may not have noticed is the song download section (in the Salad Days part of this site). She's managed to post The School Song and Old Walls in mp3 format. I understand that these were recorded during the Colorado Springs reunion. They sound as good as the school choir did in school. Not that it could be anything otherwise with Barbara and Talay in the group. Maybe you guys should start posting additional threads on the current topics in the community centre page on this piece of news so that everybody becomes aware of it.

Lochan my main man, By the time Awon had a crush on Som Singh Lama, I was past heartbreak and thinking about going to Aussieland. After all I was'nt the only studmuffin around lol. I am waiting with baited breath for the whereabouts of Princess Prach aka Awon. Am enjoying reading the emails of our group and will continue revealing the secret and not so secret crushes when I get my autograph book as the faces are clear but some names are not. Take care all you wonderful ex MH guys and gals 18/9/2003 2:53
148 vile cur lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
Alastaire, you vile dingo!

So you were leading our Prach empress down the path of broken heats and darkness? You were going around with her and yet here you were already planning to scoot off to aussieland leaving a heartbroken prach empress in your wake. How could you do such a thing? And now suddenly after 30 years you surface like a U-boat and want to contact Awon. Something is really rotten in the state of Denmark what! I smell a rat here and that smell seems to be coming from the antipodes.........from Il capo de cosa nostra of aussieland. Go exercise your eyeballs on those blondies on the Bondi and leave our raven haired empress alone.

Da Capo has respect for others, capise, besides blonds have become so common that the raven haired beauties of my youth are always far more exotic. Lets hope Ayin feeds me some info on the Prach Princess, I will be sending a bunch of photo's circa 1972-74 over to the Swazi Queen next week to post on this website. Keep a lookout Ciao

151 take back my words lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
Now that il capo from down under has assured us that he had no intention of hurting our prach empress, I take back my words and apologise to him. Capito! Rule one of life is never fool around with the emotions attached to one's first love. My dingo friend seems to have been overly fatigued by exercising his eyeball muscles on the blonde eye candies of the aussieland.

Will someone patch him an exotic raven haired beauty and lock him into the institution of marriage before it is too late?

152 Zeena Zarina Singh Bachan ( bachan@4st.wlink.com.np )
Here comes fresh blood on this thread, breathing new life!

I had a side crush on Zeena Zarina Singh when I was in class 11 or 12. She was very cute, very feminine and had this great ability to draw and hold the attention of guys. I wasn’t the only one who fell for her charm as I recall a few others openly expressing their feeling towards Zeena. However, mine remained a secret crush (or so I thought) for knowing how intuitive the girls were, I could be wrong!

Now I notice that Zeena has emerged from the past and can be found in the Calcutta Reunion thread! Hi, Zeena!remember me?! Hahaha!

153 Yonden is a NewsReader???? Robin ( sengupt_ark@yahoo.com )
That is a miracle if ever there was one.
If anyone remembers talking to Yonden in school - you would know what I'm talking about.
22/9/2003 12:39
154 Yonden June ( june@novastel.com.hk )
Hi Robin, I believe Yonden is an anchorman on the TV World channel in Hong Kong actually. Did you teach him? 23/9/2003 4:42
155 yonden lhatoo lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
Hi June and Robin,
I think Yonden Lhatoo is in South China Moring Post. Just by accident this is what I found in the internet. An article by him in the SCMP. I am pasting a portion of it. As per Robin, Yonden probably could not make it as a news reader so he may be in the newpaper side of things where he does not have to speak but write. Have a dekko.

Blitish Sordiers
Military drill marks first test of British-PLA rivalry By Yonden Lhatoo South China Morning Post 28 June 1997 ``It'sall in good spirit, but we're going to drill 'em into the ground,'' says Mark Fairhall of the Royal Air Force.

June, how are you? I still see you have not spilled the beans. ha ha. Just joking.
23/9/2003 22:49
156 Yonden Lhatoo S Lhatoo ( slhatoo@aol.com )
Robin, I wonder if you have the same Yonden. This is the Yonden who did interschool elocution and was Professor Higgins in the 1980s My Fair Lady. He does in fact anchor English news on TV in HongKong and does a damn fine job. He was indeed in the South China Morning Post a while ago. Lets all be good Hermonites and not disparage any Yondens, Lhatoos or not, eh? 1/10/2003 15:32
157 Mistaken identity - sorry Yonden! Robn ( sengupt_ark@yahoo.com )
No disparagement meant - S Lhatoo. I hope no offense was taken - certainly none was meant.
I think we are talking about different people - if you knew who I was talking about - you would know that I refer to a very positive and memorable - if little publicized - miracle. Something well worth talking about.
Mistaken identity - sorry.
The person I'm talking about overcame a very serious speech issue while still in school and it never ceased to amaze me that he did. But he would certainly not have been in school after 73 / 74 / 75 . . . or thereabouts.
And he was not an elocutor or an actor. At least not in school.
How apt that you should mention Professor Higgins - because it took somewhat of a Higginsean effort to effect the cure.
The perosn I'm talking about would not have been in school in 1980.

158 all in the spirit lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
Hey all of you! All that we write here is in good humour and a lot of times in self deprecating humour. It is all in the spirit of MH.

This is the reason this site flourishes.......we crack jokes, we make fun of each other and ourselves too and we try to re-live our days in MH........no matter how childish or how escapist it may seem. We are all Walter Mitty here. Check out Robin, Dubs, Miti and my discussion on the demerits of class of 72. Nothing written here should be construed to be malicious or disparaging. If we all have to be absolutely politically correct (excuse the oxymoron) this site will die a natural death. At the same time, we do not intentionally try to hurt or put down someone. Echoing Robin: no offence is ever meant as Hermonite love is the thread that binds us all even if we do not know each other personally.

We all love Hermonites and when someone does well in life, we rejoice that one of us has made it to the top of the pile. So cheers for Yonden Lhatoo who has made it to the top and thanks to June and S Lhatoo for bringing this to our notice.

Cheers and have a nice Puja holidays.......whereever you are and keep on writing here.

My heart is still racing !! Did all those things really happen..30 years back !! When Ayin called some few days back and told me about this SEARCH for me,I had such a good laugh and it brought back so many good memories..but sorry I dont have such perfect recall as you.Of course I remember you and how thrilled I used to be,and you leaving school in the middle of term.I was so heart broken. And I remember Zarina playing go-between!!
But i recall having a crush on somsing, you were the only one !! so there.

162 after 25 years lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
There was a song in Fiddler on the Roof that went, "....after 25 years it's nice to know....." Hey Awon and Alastaire, great to see you two "walking around the school in the spring" again in cyberspace. You've just got to love these Hermonites.

Awon, did Zarina Khan act as the go between you and our Alastaire? Well that is one bean that I did not know. Where the hell is she? Do you know anything about her? I think she too left us in 1974 but where to nobody seems to know where she went to and how she is these days. Let us know in this space if you know anything about her post 1974. Many in my class of 76 will want to know about her.

163 Al the Pom Mars ( akmondal123@yahoo.co.in )
To think that our Al from down under was capable of such tender emotion. Al - cheers ! Our recent exchanges led most of us to believe that roo steaks, 6-packs of bud and exercising the eyeballs with a taste of eye candy were your specialisations. Nice to know you have a soft underside. He he! We'll save this for later on. Must pass on this yummy stuff to Tip.
Lochan - the song in Fiddler also mentioned the drudgery (washing clothes, milking cows and what have you). The full song may spur Al the lothario to head for the covers

164 Matchmaker, Matchmaker Ayin ( ayinsao@yahoo.com )
Lochan, thanks for the Awon alert! And to continue with the 'Fiddler on The Roof' theme, remember the "Matchmaker" song? Well, let me tell you it brings much pleasure to my heart to have played a role in Awon and Alistaire's cyber back to school romance. As we all approach middle age it's nice to know that sometimes, we can go back. 5/10/2003 13:29
165 SUDS Ayin ( ayinsao@yahoo.com )
Bachan, you, you deep creature you! Here I was feeling all nice and warm that after all these years we had such a heart-to-heart over lunch in Delhi, and then not so long after you come up with the Zeena bombshell - let me tell you that the utter silence that has followed that confession is pure shell shock. Isn't that so, June, Ann, et. al? Unless, of course, you had the same strategy as I do, of saving a few tasty bits for every time this thread seems to be in danger of coming to a standstill ... Anyway, no excuses for you not making it to the Calcutta reunion any more. Zeena is there. So will June (it's your word against mine, June dear boy). There's no way I'm going to miss it now. Think of the possibilities. Ann, didn't you mention Soaps some time ago? Well, looks like it's only the Tip (pun intended) of the iceberg. 5/10/2003 13:40
166 Hi Awon June ( june@novastel.com.hk )

Hi Ayinla - totally agree with you about Bachan. I am waiting for more hidden names to come out of him. How long did the crush on Zeena last, Bachan? And who was the next? Or the previous? Seems the Gyawali brothers need to be shaken, Ayin.

Ayin, if you have the same strategy as Bachan, spill out some more names please. When will you be going to Calcutta for the reunion? Since it is your wod against mine, I have to seriously plan it.

June, my main man. Shaken but not stirred. June will you come out clean yourself? Whenever I am in your company in Hong Kong you are always exercising your eyeballs on those delicious eye candies on two legs on the water front. Extrapolating that backwards, it would seem to me that you started exercising your eyeballs on eye candies when you were in MH too. So out with it..........confess now or forever be cast out into the cold where you will gnash your teeth eternally.

Ayin, who the hell is this Zeena? Do you mave her image in jpg format that you can post it here?

Dear Aiya,
A very big thank you for getting my little Prach princess in touch with me. I am about to start our cyber relationship off now and hopefully her hubby does not know about this site, lol. Stay well and happy.

171 Finally found you Alastaire Frederick ( afrederick99@hotmail.com.au )
Hi Awon,
Finally after almost 3 decades do we get back in touch. I can't tell you how surreal this feels. Whilst I'm typing this at work I am transported back to Darj. Not only because the weather today is so similiar to Darj with a misty rain falling and a cold breeze blowing (very unlike spring). Its great to finally catch up thanks to Aiya, Ann and the Internet(look at 120). What have you been up to.
A little bit about what I've been up to since arriving in Australia. Lived in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney. Working in hotels, resorts, tourism consulting et al all over Oz for over 20 yrs, New Zealand and a short spell in Phuket. Currently @ the Hughenden hotel as GM (www.hughendenhotel.com.au) about 5ft 9inches, 11stone, greying at the front and sides. I've earned every one of those. A few wrinkles and laugh lines, thankfully no pot belly or other signs of prosperity partly due to the fact that I never married so have to stay looking better than the married guys, lol. I will be posting a whole lot of photos to Joy from 1972-74 as well a recent ones so check out our web to see what we used to and now look like. Dont forget to post yours over or email it to me. Dying to see how beautiful you turned out.
Yes, you were my first crush and helped make my time at MH all that more special. Do you remember the time we first met down in Fernhill? I've still got your 2 photos which I will put on the web. What are you doing with yourself, where are you and yada yada yada. Please inform us all or if you choose to not let the nosy parkers from here know just email me, lol. I'm betting they cant wait to know what we will be talking about. If you have any questions about me, please dont hesitate to ask. Lochan and Mars will tell you I'm not afraid of the hard questions.
Bye for now and tons of love XXXX
Alastaire (be still my beating heart)

Hope you guys "continue" where you left off 30 years ago........in a more mature way of course.

Awon, what the hell did you do to Alastaire that he ran away from school in the mid term. I smell a 30 year old rat here.

174 stay away June ( june@novastel.com.hk )
Lochan - respect your brother's secret crush and stay away from Zeena. She is a beautiful girl and we don't want you drooling over her picture. You can see her in person on Dec 20 at the Cal reunion, if you promise to behave yourself. 6/10/2003 6:29

179 Oooops Ann ( zpoonte )
Sorry guys, the page wouldn't load and I kept refreshing which is how 3 copies of my post got here. I'm not gunning for 200, honest! 6/10/2003 12:18
180 The plot thickens! Ayin ( ayinsao@yahoo.com )
Ann, dear girl, Did I not tell you that I remember you? As well as Peggy. And I sure as hell am gunning for the big 200 so don't apologize for anything.
Lochan, June has now decided to go discreet so I'll spill his beans - he and Zeena were an item at around the same time that his friend Bull (of the great Orissa bunk fame re. Bunking and Exeats topic) and I were an item. Now, I'm trying to figure out whether this was post, prior or simultaneous to my Robin Banerjee crush - go figure!!

181 Old faithfuls Ayin ( ayinsao@yahoo.com )
Dear friends, actually, forget Soaps. It just hit me that this has got to be the best reality "show" of all time (Alistaire and Awon, kindly indulge the "voyeurs" in all of us). And for all of you who are even thinking of missing the Calcutta reunion just think what you'll be missing out on - Zeena whom Bachan had a crush on and whose brother Lochan now (June claims) is wont to drool over her picture walked around the school with June who had a crush on Ayinla (one of whose friends had a crush on June) who was going around with his friend Bull who later went around with Anne (Gardner) who had earlier gone around with June. What goes around comes around?!? 6/10/2003 23:43
182 june lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
June was a bull of a casanova but a chicken when comes to this site. Now how in his fertile imagination (June I do not mean your brains became fertile because of the organic fertiliser therein!!) did he come up with the idea that I will drool over some picture of some person whom I do not even remember notwithstanding Bachan.

That brings me to the Mishras. Did anyone notice that both the Mishras (june and joy) refuse to divulge their crushes? June, this is your last warning otherwise when I am in HK next, I am going to cast your legs in a concrete block and throw you into the waters of the fragrant habour.

183 A Bollywood or Aussiewood MH Reality Show? Stick Insect Falls for Naga Princess Alastaire ( afrederick99@hotmail.com.au )
Well Guys,
I must get permission from my Prach Princess before I can say anything, now that she's online. I'm sure you all understand that the Naga's used to be Head hunters and I have become quite accustomed to having mine sit on my shoulders, the view is better from there. So patience, promises or threats towards the beautiful Naga princess are in order. I remember so many incidents very clearly so this should be quite interesting for the Mills and Boon lovers out there. Be still my beating heart. Ciao for now.

184 Ayinla June ( june@novastel.com.hk )
Hi Ayinla - I have been keeping quiet but to no avail as you have spilled my beans. You missed Suk Fui though. Anyways, she was no secret crush, as we were open. Have you gotten in touch with Bull for the reunion? Maybe Awon can help. I owe you one though, Ayin. And how about Robin (your crush) with Annie. And Bull with Annie. And you with Bull. I probably did not put that in correct order, but you know what I mean. What goes around certainly does come around. And Bachan's crush with Zeena. And Lochan dying to drool over Zeena's picture.

Ann - I do remember you. Maybe you should put up a picture of yourself so that those who don't, do.

Lochan - I really don't have a good memory. Probably due to brain damage from alcohol which started during my early MH days. There was someone whose name started with an "R", I think. Now your turn, Lochan.
8/10/2003 5:46
185 Suk Fui lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
Hey I remember Suk Fui. She used to be in Bachan's class.....she and the other Chinese girl from Cal. I think Bachan was quite close to Suk Fui as I remember seeing some nice photos of her in his photo album. Perhaps Ayinla can goad him to scan those and post it here as she seems to have a special relation with him....lunch and what have you in some swank restaurant in Delhi. Eh Ayinla?? Any idea where those two Chiense girls are these days? Probably Canada as I see quite a few Chinese Hermonites in Canada. (see Miss Russell in USA thread). My good friend, Fui Chung Li (and his wife, June, who studied in St. Helen's) is there too.

June, for the love of me, I do not remember Zeena nor would I drool over her photo. Hey I did not even drool over the photo of Gayzen Lama. Ergo no chance for others!!

Who is this "R" you are talking about? You sound like someone from Men in Black........calling people by one alphabet.....R and Z or L!! I am sure there were many people whose names began with or had an R in them but what are you trying to say? That I had a crush on someone whose name began with R?? I don't recall anyone. Sorry to disappoint you June.
8/10/2003 6:53
186 Suk Fui II June ( june@novastel.com.hk )
Yes Lochan, Suk Fui is very very special. She was in Sweden but unfortunately we lost touch during my college days in Maryland. Yes, Bachan and her were good friends. I used to get jeolous with Bachan in a fun way. I have a bunch of her pictures in Bangkok. I think her friend (Cheng I think - a very decent girl too) is in Canada - not sure though. Again - Bachan would recall.

The "R" - I only remember her name starts with an "R" and that she is from Nepal. Maybe you or Bachan will remember her?
8/10/2003 7:38
187 The correct name is Suk Fvi Bachan ( bachan@4st.wlink.com.np )
June, you of all people should know Sue's correct name. It isn't Suk Fui but Suk Fvi. Yes, its sounds the same with the 'u' or 'v', but somehow it is different.

The other Chinese girl was Ching Mei Chung, who is in Toronto, Canada.

As for Sue, she was in Lund, Sweden, but isn't there anymore.

188 Walking around the school Ayin ( ayinsao@yahoo.com )
June, I temporarily forgot the rest of the chain that you promptly filled us in on. Anyone out there ready to spill any more secrets to add links to our chain? I guess in our case walking 'around' the school was aptly termed so in more ways than one! I did ask Awon about Bull and she told me that she runs into him every once in a while in Manipur. Any of you guys (June/ Lochan/ Bachan) know the whereabouts of Winnie (sp?) Liang? Remember him? He was in MH for a year or two only but he left a lasting impression on me - scared me witless by creeping up on me (Shibesh Singh in tow)during piano practice in the music room after dinner one evening. It then became a fairly regular practice but yours truly was so clueless to that particular form of courting that it took some heart to hearts from Pui (remember her Ann?) for me to figure out what exactly was going on. Then when the bulb finally lit he was going around with Aroti! What!!?? My reaction exactly! But I had no hard feelings because of my Captain, oh Captain!! 8/10/2003 20:0
189 Thanks Bachan June ( june@novastel.com.hk )
Thanks Bachan, for Sue's correct name spelling. I know the correct name is Fvi, I just thought others would not know. 9/10/2003 2:4
190 Ayin's other crush June ( june@novastel.com.hk )
So Ayinla has come out with another of her crushes - Winnie Liang. Yes I remember him - a very nice and jovial guy. Anyone else, Ayin? You do have a good memory. 9/10/2003 2:8
191 R girl lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
June, perhaps you have forgotten. If you are refereing to the R girl from Nepal, you may have forgotten your own Hermonite friend in Hong Kong, Rabina or Rubina Gurung. I remember you talking about her but as for me, I do not know her. She probably was after my time in MH. I think you met her a couple of times in HK some years ago. 9/10/2003 2:54
192 Tip of the iceberg Ann ( zpoonte )
I'd kind of thought we were all done with this topic but what do we have but people coming out with more revelations, a little more secret ones but they're coming out alright. Way to go, guys!!! Bachan, to think you shyly began with "Under the lollipop tree" LOL 9/10/2003 12:28
193 Under My Lollipop Tree bachan ( bachan@4st.wlink.com.np )
Ann, when Miss. Johnson first sang that song for us in grade 1, who was to know what a wonderful 'tree' MH was going to be and what variety of 'lollipops' (not to mention shape, size, looks and demeanor) the tree had in store for each one of us, boy or girl!

Ayinla, you read well into the minds of others. Needed to throw in a tasty morsel to keep this thread going, didn't I? It was not difficult to like Zeena, just as it was not difficult to like so many other girls in school! Of course these 'likes' were categorized into various levels (read thread # 90 for clarity). To put the record straight, Zeena fell in the zone between 'like' and 'crush'! As for the other girls...well, guess you have to wait awhile, until this thread shows signs of fatigue again and I am forced delve into the past bringing back some more interesting information! ;-)

June, you rascal! Rabina too wasn't spared your gaze huh? That too well many years after finishing school! Well, my friend, one thing is for sure, the lasses of MH sure hit you hard. Hmmm. You are a sentimental one, aren't you. Yes, MH did train her daughters and sons to be gentle and compassionate. Just make me think though, June, was there any girl in school that you didn't have a crush on???!!!

194 Naga Princess lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
Hey Alastaire, your Naga princess chickened out I notice. I think you scared the hell out of the now no more Prach Princess.

June seems to have had a crush on every girl named Jane, Jill and Mary........very much like my friend Alastaire in Australia who is a keen practitioner of exercising his eyeball muscles on what he calls eye candies. Alastaire, you may get eye strain if you do that sort of exercise too often. :)

195 Power Failure/Phone lines down Alastaire ( afrederick99@hotmail.com )
Hiya Lochan,
I'm putting it down to overwhelming emotions, power failure and telephone lines being down ,thunderstorms, floods, pestilence, earthquakes, scare tactics by Dubya, Rumsfeld et al.
June, be careful they're not the same girl with wigs and make up used to entice and entrap, lol.
My eyeballs are growing stronger weekly although I fear I may get eye diabetes in the next few years. There is no known tests for eyeball diabetes although I suspect quite a few doctors may have it with the quality of nurses going around.
10/10/2003 21:7
196 eyeball diabetes lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
I don't think June will get eyeball diabetes. The guy's pumps industrial strength insulin to his eyes when he exercises his eyeball muscles. However he's got to be careful now eh June? He'll be in the crosshairs of Mrs. Terminator. Now what was that song from the marriage of Figaro we used to sing in school......"Not for you, frills and laces, not for you the sweet pretty faces.......Say goodbye now to past time and gay lad.........."

197 Manipur, not Nagaland June ( june@novastel.com.hk )
Hi Alistaire - I think your Prach Princess is from Manipur and not Nagaland. Or do you have another crush from Nagaland. Ayin could have been the one, as she is from Nagaland?

Lochan and Bachan - my friends - we should enjoy as much of of God's creations as we can. After all, gazing never hurt anyone - please correct me if I am wrong.
11/10/2003 1:55
198 Not Manipur lochan ( lochan@nbe.com.np )
June, Awon was a Naga. I have no doubt about that. Perhaps she used to live in Manipur but that is another matter. Now that she is on line, she can confirm it herself too. Ann/Ayinla, what is the story on her origins?? :)

No harm done in gazing at God's creations........no harm at all. No harm in having a crush on them either and definitely no harm in loving them too. As the poet said, a thing of beauty is a joy for ever. Sorry if I have mangled that a bit but you get the drift.

So June do go about your daily chores diligently but do exercise your eyeballs on the eye candies from time to time. No harm done. Ditto for everyone. Exercise and keep fit.......exercise, even if it is eyeball muscles, never did anybody any harm at all.

Ann, now that is one exercise that you too can do regularly and claim to rest of the world that you exercise regularly!! ROTFL :) Cheers and have a nice day!

199 A new chapter Ayin ( ayinsao@yahoo.com )
All you regulars out there, I think we need to start Part 2 of the topic once we hit 200. I think the reason why contributions to the topic have slowed down is because unless you have a broadband internet connection it's now taking forever to download. I know that when I was in India there were many times when it just didn't download completely. Now, now, Gyawali brothers, back off from Alistaire's and June's favourite forms of physical activity. I, for one, think there's no harm in looking. In fact I think it's quite healthy to be openly appreciative of members of the opposite sex. It's those silent ones you have to watch out for! To settle the Awon origins debate for you guys - Awon is a Tangkhul Naga from Manipur. FYI, apart from Nagaland there are Nagas tribes in Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Myanmar. Hence, your confusion guys. One last detail for the day - please confirm your attendance for the Calcutta reunion asap. 11/10/2003 9:13
200 A double century! Ann ( zpoonte )
It sure does take a long, long time to load this page, you're absolutely right, Ayin. So since this is the last and final post in this thread, I just want to say CHEERS to all you wonderful people who took us down memory lane and made us laugh and cry and raise eyebrows and relive history.

Hey Lochan ..I was busy what with two school going kids, definatly no chicken !!And yes I am Naga but from Manipur so you are also right June.
Alastaire...how can we disappoint all those sharks out there and do this in secret ?We'll just throw them a little bait at a time and keep them interested !!I've just been so busy that i had no time to join in.Do you remember the time when we met near the infirmary..you gave me something..can't remember..was it a ring or momos !!Most probably momos coz that would have made more sense being hungry all the time !!
Well abit about myself..I 've been flying with Air India for the last 16 years..we used to fly to Sydney and Perth but the route been stopped for a few years now..wish Ann had started this site way back, then we'd have met up !!But it wouldn't be so exciting.I've put on abit of weight but i still look good..if i may say so myself !!I will post some photos of myself later, hopefully your vision of me doesn't get dashed to the ground !!
Ann..of course I remember you..were you with me once at night just before swimming season had started, pool was already filled,we went down and even peeped into fernhill !! and got caught !! and our matron whas her name made us sit in the corridor in our wet clothes the whole night..and then got caning from Mr Murray after breakfast !!So...who were the others ?!!
Hey I'm the first one this new century..cheers !
Gotta run ,be back soon.
