two leaves and a BUDdy

What has Darjeeling always been famous for.......Tea.
Far far away, on the other side of the world, I still love the champange of all teas, Darj tea & Illam tea too.
That reminds be of all the extra curricular excursions that every guy, class 6 & up made to the tea gardens.
The sense of freedom when U were in the tea garden :) --- U got a taste of that way back in class 3\4 when water was scare and U had to make a trip to the springs at blackrock to wash the topFlat dirt after a good ole game of cricket or soccer(ok ok football) ---- Or when your parents did not come to get U for the May\August holidays and U and your passe' had to book for a picnic and you could go down the khudside, dhobi ghat or patlibaas(that sleeply little town)
Time flies to quick, junior school is behind U, winter holidays are over and instead of entering MH through it's main gates, all of a sudden you drive past it, go all the way down to bunegg(regardless of how many times we got caught out there we still went --- remember the bun eggs \twisted and the khaini\cigarettes) -- around the maintenance center and into Mr Wadkars' Eden --- the Round Building.  And so the "boys were back" ----and along with a lot of other memories begins one of being free and running amuk in the tea gardens of darjeeling.
Getting into the tea garden was eazy--just walk past the pool, look out for the guards(ahem teachers) ;)[just using it as an analogy--U teachers don't need to feel offended--U'll were great -- most of U that is] --- do a fox trot like 1 of them injuns in Louis Lamour and there you were free to do what U pleased
It was always a fun filled afternoon while out there in the tea garden, on most sundays U had to time it b\w after lunch and before tea --during that time U could go all the way down to Patlibas, the cable car, some dudes even hung on to the bags going back & forth and did manage to pull it down, as for me -- all I did was look up into the sky(mind U we went of really awesome days and not those drooly days) and the Lebong valley, all the way down to the Teesta, up and beyond to Sikkim and over the hills & far away into the mighty Kunchejunga. In some places, the tea bushes were more like carpets and we could literally jump and tumble & twist down them. If U were in the tea garden, U needed to make sure that it was a perfect enclave, and the laws of physics made it impossible for light to travel from that spot to any place so that U would be spotted from any of the teachers cottages etc.   Of course the were a few showdowns(one on one) too, & I hope some of U remember getting bashed or being bashed --- it's all a matter of perception anyway.[Hey big bully --do U regret it now???]
Might I remind U that the tea garden was the escape route of choice when ever we had to bunk to town.
The tea comes in a tea bag now, it has some fancy wrapping and it has been blended from multiple tea estates --- I wonder if even a speck of it could be from the tea garden by MH.
In 3 mins, I have a hot cup out of the microwave -- I drop the tea bag in it, let it sit and start my Saturday(I woke up late mind U) with a cup of tea, Darj tea i.e
I present this article in it's original draft, hope U enjoy it ------- and the rest I leave to your own imagination------which I hope U too will share some day.......PEACE
